Egan departs

Essendon Head of Player Development and VFL Coach, Matthew Egan, has advised the Club he is seeking a fresh opportunity and will move on from the Bombers.

Our job now is to poach some decent assistant from another club. Or get Fletch. Thats the industry.

Brisbane?

Was great over a tough period. Coached us to a win over the Pies which is more than OK with me! Did well with the VFL boys too.

Best of luck for the future!

Well this is pretty ****ing unexpected

Essendon Head of Player Development and VFL Coach, Matthew Egan, has advised the Club he is seeking a fresh opportunity and will move on from the Bombers.

Egan said he was grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Essendon family.

“I have been fortunate to take on the responsibility of interim senior coach in 2015 and invested a lot of my life in the Club in a commitment to driving the direction of player development,” Egan said.

“In my final year I have enjoyed the opportunity to work with Woosha and will take many key learnings with me into the next chapter of my career.

“I have really enjoyed my time with the Essendon Football Club, I feel I have made a positive impact during my tenure and wish everyone at the Club all the best for 2017 and beyond.”

Egan joined the Bombers as an Assistant Coach ahead of the 2012 season, after two seasons as the forward line coach he made the transition to backline coach in 2014 before moving into the role of Head of Player Development and VFL Coach in 2016.

General Manager of Football, Rob Kerr, thanked ‘Ego’ for his five years of service to the Club.

“Ego is a great football person, his wealth of knowledge, professionalism, experience and care for those within the organisation has been a great asset for our football department staff and players,” Kerr said.

“We’ve been in discussions with Matthew regarding 2017 and beyond and we were keen for him to continue, however Matt feels that it is in his best interests to get exposure to a different environment at this stage of his career.

“Ego’s commitment to the Club, our players and our football program through his contributions both on and off-field will have a lasting impact.

“On behalf of everyone at the Essendon Football Club we wish Matt, his wife Bianca and children Hudson, Isla and Eva all the very best for the future.”

Which of our players is he going to poach?

Seriously though, seemed a good operator. Not surprised as he’s been developed in a number of roles over the past few years.

What’s the bet he’ll join Melbourne.

I believe he has great potential to become a very good coach. Rated him highly.

now that i’ve taken a second to cool off, can he take skipworth with him?

Hmmm.

Becoming an assistant under Woosha would’ve been nice.

Aron Heppell

Finally we can get some proper jobs for the boys going and bring in Sumich.

Just like Shannon Grant and Brendan McCartney at the Bulldogs.

Richmond has a few opennings

Big loss I reckon. Lucky enough to meet him and he was polite, really well spoken and seemed really smart and switched on. Seems like he could coach too. Would have liked him to get a big promotion with us and perhaps be groomed to take over from Woosha when (if?) he steers us out of this dark era.

Might get the gig in Brisbane?
