Electric Motor Vehicles

amen on the iPhone . but tesla cars a very cool imo. I dislike musk so much now it’s a hard no for me to ever consider purchasing a tesla . it would have to be an offer I couldn’t refuse to get me in one now. 6 Months ago I nearly did a lease on one

I will rent you my Model 3 for $1000 a day. I even will deliver and pickup

Sixt at Tulla normally has them. Not the airport one but the one on Mickleham. The Sixt app will let you select “electric” and then will find you the closest depots with availability

daym!

they are hinting as 60k for the AWD version of this . hard to believe it would be this exact version

I saw a guy on Youtube, Ludicrous Feed, doing a drive from Sydney to Melbourne and back in one of the XPENGs. Strange thing was…he was desperately trying to get to Tesla charging stations and they don’t provide access to non-Teslas along the Hume. He was convinced they should work, but he found they don’t.

I think he was keen on their infrastructure, but certainly the only station I encountered which was Tesla was at Gundagai. There were a few 50kw ones out by the Dog but they weren’t good. Evies I think. The Tesla ones were out the back of the restaurant jobby (Olivers) I skipped them on my second trip.

Plenty of all the other chargers along the Hume.

Thanks but nope:

We have just driven in Mrs Fox’s Model Y from Bacchus Marsh to Wollongong, to Richmond on the Hawkesbury, to Canberra and then home.

Left at 100%, charged at Tesla Superchargers at the way, Albury 12 x 250KW at Commercial Club, nice place to eat as well. Then Gundagi near the Dog on the Box at Ollie’s, 120kW. Then at Figtree in Wollongong, 250 kW at Shopping Centre, then after Richmond at the Catholic Club 250 kW units in Campbelltown, 120kW units at Maccas near Canberra Airport.

On home stretch, 250 kW at Yass in a car park behind a pub on the Main Street, and then finally in Wangaratta 120kW at Co-op Shopping Centre in middle of Town.

All were easily accessible, only busy place was Catholic Club, but it was Sunday morning !

All drama free and fitted in well with food needs so no excessive waiting.

Seems to be dozens of EV charging option up the Hume. Didn’t try NRMA Chargers but was told they are much cheaper for RACV members as well.

OK, will pick you up, drive you around and buy lunch for $1000 a day, $1200 a day if you rather travel in Tesla Y. It is all tax deductible, tax invoice provided.

What a bargain! And with all the EFC and politics discussion thrown in!

Well,I wasn’t arguing that.

There are plenty of non-Tesla stations on the Hume.

Probably not as many as Tesla Superchargers, but cheaper, and non-Teslas cannot use Tesla (on the Hume) and Ludicrous Feed seemed keen to use Tesla (although you can’t…or couldn’t at that time).

In two trips,I’ve used Epping, Barnawartha North,Gundagai, Tarcutta(fastest), Alexandria, Pheasant’s Nest, Euroa.

That seems like a lot of stops. How long did you spend charging in total? and cost?

At a number of Tesla Superchargers there were a few non-Tesla cars, mostly MG.

Didn’t look at costs yet, as it was all on Mrs Fox’s account.

Reckon that in the next few years, the Service Stations will get EV chargers which will probably normalise the process. Some of the EV charging places are a bit out of the way.

In Wangaratta it is on the top floor of the three story car park for example.

Most stops were about 20 to 30 minutes, and mostly were food and drink stops. Not sure of costs yet as it was on Mrs Fox’s account, but generally it seems to be about 25% of Petrol cost equivalent.

Bacchus Marsh to Wollongong is about 880 km and trip took about 9.5 hours with the two stops. Next morning charging was at a shopping centre so we charged to 90% as Mrs Fox purchased shoes ! We then spent four days driving around checking out a new house to buy.

Then charged again at shopping centre for trip to Richmond for family birthday party. Didn’t charge again until driving to Canberra on Sunday. Charged Monday morning at Maccas and then Yass and Wangaratta on way home.

Probably could have cut out the Maccas in Canberra and gone straight to Yass, which in hindsight would have saved us an hour on way home. Canberra morning traffic to a disaster, and they are the worst drivers on the planet.

Also should note that Mrs Fox did all the driving, about 2500 km over the journey. Her first long drive in the Y and she would not give up the drivers seat. My knuckles are still white.

I am planning a trip to Palm Cove for May which along the coast is getting up to 4000 km, can do it with Tesla chargers all the way to Bowen it seems, them it gets a bit tricky, but there are enough places along the way to make it feasible.

Thanks. Appreciate the info.

I was in LA and had a Tesla. We drove to San Diego and half way back had to stop for a a charge.
We had to wait 40 minutes. I would have rather paid for a full tank and done it in 5.

So I’m leaning towards a Hybrid.

No waiting at any place on our trip, most were empty, except Catholic Club in Campbelltown. Massive Club, looks very new with acres of pokies and great food, very cheap. They even let Atheists in !

Why ? Batteries are getting better and better, EV charging is getting quicker and quicker. They are no fuss, just plug in and it does the rest. The rapid acceleration is great on country trips when overtaking.

Ours cost us nothing at home with our solar panels doing the work, and seriously there is little to no maintenance. Had my Model 3 near 2.5 years, and have done nothing except drive nearly 40,000 kms. Supposed to rotate tyres every 10,000, but took it to my local tyre man and he checked and said it was not needed and that tyres have at another 40,000 in them. Hardly use the brakes. There is an air filter that should be replaced every two years, so I bought the kit for $50 and watched the YouTube on doing it, seems simple. Will get around to it one day!

Test drive as many cars as you can, it makes a difference knowing what they do.

Cheers. Appreciate that.

The idea of waiting around whilst it charges seems insane to me.
But perhaps that’s only for the random long trips.

Basic question and I apologise for my ignorance, but are the plugs for chargers all the same? Eg until they were forced to change, iphones had a special “lightning” charging port that meant you couldn’t charge the phone with a USB-C charger like all other phones. Do chargers for cars all have the same plugs, or are they different depending on make? If they’re not all the same, are there only two types, or many?

Pretty sure all new cars have the same plugs…CCS2, while a lot of old ones (pre-2020?) have Chademo…most charging stations have both.

Forget old Tesla…all Nazi-lovers anyhow.
