Compared to what they claimed as pre-orders over the years, 50k seems a pretty poor conversion rate. But I would more likely put that to Elon’s continuous overpromises (straight out lying) and frustrating customers than him being a Nazi. Although the latter will not help future sales.
In any case, the figures will be interesting in the coming months.
It’s hard to see where Tesla sits in the automotive future with the crazy amount of chinese manufacturers coming into the market. It’ll be the network, not the cars that could hurt telsa. Right now a major selling point for a tesla is the almost monopoly of a reliable fast charge network. All it would take to change that is a chinese company to open that network up and take away tesla current advantage.
I’ve said in this thread in the past, it’s such a shame that this once proud company with clearly superior vehicles and amazing workers have had their entire reputation tarred by a complete narcissistic sociopath.
Nope didn’t drive it, but I don’t use rear view mirror or side mirrors any longer in my model 3. The cameras are great, and shows me where all other cars are.
With my deepest respect and with due deference to your high ranking in the academic world, Model 3 and CyberTruck both use the same type of camera system, hence what you see on the screen is very similar.
Google tells us there are at least 2 problems that the truck has that your 3 doesn’t have:
If the truck’s cover is closed, which it probably mostly is, then there’s zero view out the back. Thus the need for the cameras. But:
Driving in the rain, due to its shape and aerodynamics, the airflow around the truck creates a vortex, directing dirt toward the rear camera. It may have eaves to protect it from water coming vertically, but the designers did not think of the dirt drawn by the airflow when driving in the rain. With no ultrasonic sensors and a camera covered in mud, you can’t park the CT without cleaning it first.
My KIA has both side mirrors and cameras. The cameras only come into effect, and displayed on the dash, when the indicators are on, so you can see that the lane you’re turning into is safe. My car even stops me physically driving into a lane that’s either occupied or about to be occupied.
