It was an institution, Listening to DeeDee, Slack and Slieker every week was my techno education.
Great techno, but geez some of the performance art they would put on was straight out disturbing.

They would sometimes just play straight out 70’s hard core p@rn projected on the wall.
The place was insane.
I would travel in from the eastern suburbs in my mates open top V8 Jeep opentop (which his security consisted of a stearing wheel lock and pulling the starter cables out) every Thursday night. Walking down those stairs made us feel like we were in a scene out of Swingers.
Someone mentioned in one of the albums threads that music at the start of a decade is usually stronger that the later part of the decade. Early 2000s was just before me but it’s my favourite era of dance music.
I remember being off my rocker and the venue I was at was playing heavy metal on the screens. At that stage I’d never heard or seen it. I must of sat there bug eyed watching the movie for an hour haha.
I did the very same at the lounge, but it was a constant stream of Mr Bean episodes. I reckon i stood there an hour fixated.
Yeah it was super sexually deviant stuff.
Strangest one I saw was someone dressed in a full dog customer and someone else dressed as a baby in a kiddie inflatable pool. The dog had a d.ildo and… well you’ll have to use your imagination. Whole crowd went WTF!
Edit better video
Brunny st festival, Alexandra parade raving all day all night, lol most of us had been out raving hard the night before too. Epic times.
That’s eerily similar, just needs the dog
jebus! I must have missed that one!
After checking that I’ve had my rabies shots, I have ventured into this thread to ask if Tangerine Dream would belong in here.
I’ve just been listening to “Ricochet” an album of theirs from 1975.
I know that it come under the “Electronica” genre but was it early EDM?
Please say no…as I thought it was quite listenable.
If you were dancing then yeah.
I’ve generally thought what would evolve into electronic dance music began around 1977 when you had Donna Summer, Giorgio Moroder, and Kraftwerk doing their thing.
Phew…I was just sitting at my computer…no dancing was involved
So I can safely split Electronic music (such as Tangerine Dream) from EDM?
Yeah, I’d say so. I haven’t listened deeply to them but it’d probably owe more to the experimentation of prog and krautrock.
Donna Summer with Morodo producing definitely the focal point. But it’s just the evolution of disco.
Reading up on djs from the 70s is so fascinating… cutting tape to make a mix, having a posse finding music for you. It was a full on job back then.
Tangerine dream is definitly one of the precursors to electronic music.
EDM is just pop trash that was popular in 2007, think David Guetta, no respectable fan of electronic music uses the EDM term.
Did you ever see that TV series Vinyl, with Bobby Cannavale? It never got renewed for a second season, but was a fun look at a record producer in NY in the 70s looking for the next thing. The Kool Herc focus was good.
