Haha I consciously typed the full words out and not “EDM”. As a genre term it makes no sense to me.
I love finding old tracks that have been sampled in the past 30 years.
If you remember that INXS remix 20-25 years ago this is what it came from for example.

Can’t recall but I’ll note it down.
It’s completely meaningless. It’s think it arose from that time period when electronic festivals where getting bigger than rock festivals in America. People were going to EDM festivals, it was a shorthand. But it was very poppy melodic music, with theatrical shows and the focus was more on lights shows, confetti and the big drop rather than the music. From what was an underground music genre it became the mainstream. Look it’s still fun and I don’t begrudge people going to festivals and having fun. But EDM is not representative of electronic music.
It’s like pop punk and punk, they both have the same word but it’s not the same thing. The complete opposite in many ways.
Have you read Can’t Stop Won’t Stop? That was a fantastic read when I wanted to learn about the beginnings of hip hop.
Which is sad because they very much were the same or similar way back when.
No will note it down.
Funny you mention hip hop, I have been trying to broaden my tracks and feel I need some hip-hop, rnb etc.
It’s not really my thing, finding it hard to see past the limited creativity of it all. There’s definitely some great stuff but after a while I feel like I’m listening to a guitarist playing blues with 1 year experience lol.
Sorry, I kinda misread your original post about DJs and mixing.
Set was going nicely, here’s a chance to continue at morning recovery.
Hayden James and Duke Dumont last night at PICA, great gig. Thought Eli & Fur - one of the warmup acts - was excellent. Here’s a mix
