Elite Bulldogs Vs Essington Rabble (Match Review Thread)

I don’t disagree with you, but he’s also won us two games in that time.

Yep.

One theory I’m pondering is if they increased training loads prior to the Suns game in all expectations of getting the wins we needed for finals despite tiring them, only to have a new wave of injuries during the same period that have in turn brought the whole plan crumbling down.

It still wouldn’t surprise anyone I think if they opened up and told us a virus had gone through the joint in the last 3 weeks, … looking at energy levels over the period, it certainly would fit.

Or, … has Woosh told them he has to chuck it in for personal/family reasons and Cara is coming in as Head Coach,… just that it’s on the downlow outside Club walls?

I think the last one, which others have also suggested is least likely, . because I doubt a), that the players would drop their heads rather than play harder for him knowing he’s leaving, and b) If a new HC is taking over, . they normally lift knowing their list spot is now quite possibly on the line,… as usually happens when a Coach gets the nut, and a caretaker is installed.

Yeah, that video is exactly what I thought of too, like they were trying to simulate messy scrappy play.

Hi there. Not sure how to put last night into words. 23 seconds in I let 12 years of pent up frustration out into the biggest “LETS GO BOMBERS!”

21 goals later I was a broken man being consoled by my 4, non-Essendon mates who came along.

“Mate, I feel for ya…”

Never thought I would hear those words every 2 minutes or so.

He’s kicked four goals for the year.
Two of them have been important - one was a sealer, GWS - but let’s keep some perspective here.
We tried him as a full time forward and it was not a success.

You don’t keep a guy because he kicks 2 or even 4 good goals a year. That’s a nice icing on top sort of thing to have.

I think Heppell looked genuinely despondent after the game.

Character building times now - come out and show intensity and spirit against Freo. That’s all I’d be asking them for.

Luckily I have a FOURTEEN hour flight to think about last night.

Since moving o/s in 2003 I’ve been to two games. The 2006 draw with FC, and the 2012 94-point loss to Hawthorn. I might try another at the start of next season.

On a day after he was released from hospital.

I agree that he’s winding down, and isn’t the player he used to be (he can’t run, for instance). But we’re going to need a stay at home tall forward in the next few years to kick a goal and a half a game and make sure that Joe doesn’t get double teamed. I’d much rather Hooker fill that role than either McKernan or Brown.

Because smugly pointing at that kind of thing doesn’t make us less sht at football

Maybe just watch the highlights from the niners preseason game against the cowboys on repeat and…um…believe?!:wink:

The start of any new season is a wonderful thing, anything can still happen. Nothing like last night’s debacle and where we find ourselves now.

It’s complete frustration. The supporters have much more invested in winning than the players.
To the players it’s a job, like any job they do their best have good days and bad days.
But I don’t think the players understand that the supporters are their customers.
And if the customers are dissatisfied with the product they have every right to vent their frustration.
And ask for a refund just quietly.
Because players will come and go, but most of the supporters will be there forever.

Left at three quarter time, with the Mrs’ getting edgy to go in the second but I wanted to stay because we had cracking seats and paid some good dosh for it. We saw 0 goals scored after the first 25 seconds. Zero. Nothing to cheer about. Not a single thing…Well I did cheer about a mark at half back early in the third…Just laughing hysterically by halfway through the second and the only question was would it be 100 points by the third or not.

The whole culture stinks and has for years. Loser culture. Worsfold clearly in self-preservation mode with the “I’ve gotten teams out of this position before” yeah well we shouldn’t be in it for starters. He doesn’t wanna rock the apple cart, he knows what happens to coaches in the league that try this, the playesr rebel and the coach is gone. So for him it’s about himself. I’ve seen much worse Essendon teams put up more fight than this pathetic rabble. WE WERE 124 POINTS DOWN HALFWAY THROUGH THE LAST. They kicked 21 GOALS STRAIGHT, 2 off the record. This was the most deplorable effort I could possibly imagine. They literally waltzed through us, even Gold Coast put up more fight than us. The tackling was laughable, I can barely remember a tackle that stuck.

Our fitness stink. Our coaching stinks. Our players either stink or are cooked and can’t be bothered. Our tackling and pressure stink. I know we’ll always be Essington but like herpes it’s always under the surface ready to come out, and no matter how many wins we get next year we all know Essington is there ready to come out when things get tough.

The era of Lloyd/Lucas/Fletcher/Hird has wrecked this club. We now have developed a culture of relying on the excellence of a few to get us over the line. We lack hard work, our fitness is ranked what, 17th? Pathetic. Reckon outside of Zerrett, Heppell, Shiel, Saad the rest pick and choose their efforts. I reckon bringing in consistent efforted guys like Snelling is the only way this club will go anywhere.

You can’t tell me we didn’t have talent out there. We had Heppell, Shiel, Zerrett, Fantasia, Stringer, Tippa, McGrath, McKenna and heck even Zaka with guys like McKernan, Brown, Redman and Hooker you’d argue would be in other teams at least. The 2016 team lost one game by 107 points. The 2016 team at least kicked a few goals. The 2016 team, made up of rejects and over the hill oldies would beat this team right now. This team is a joke. I didn’t expect us to win, but I thought the team wouldn’t raise the white flag after 30 seconds. The scary thing is, we actually won the clearances last night, a team that was 125 points down halfway through the last was leading the clearance count, goes to show how little stats mean.

After last night’s debacle, I was tempted to hold back on any criticism of Essendon Football Club. But things have to be said. Whether anyone at EFC bothers to read anything supporters say is debatable. Who is responsible for the miserable efforts of last week and last night? Coaches, Yes. Players. Yes. Injuries and conditioning. Yes. Our winning streak of five matches, some were more good luck rather than good, positive football - GWS game, North game, Suns game. The Suns game, a game Essendon should have won by 5 - 8+ goals, was an indicator of what was to come and what will occur in the next two weeks. After the Suns game my prediction was for a loss for the remaining five games. So far my prediction have been correct.
Many of the media have said our list is young and has a bright future. This morning I got the red pen out and here is the result - decisions have to be made now about who stays and who is delisted.

  1. Fantasia - aim for a second and third round draft pick from either Port or Crows as he wants to go home to SA. Not interested in staying at EFC.
  2. Brown - Too timid, too slow and too old. Good VFL player.
  3. Langford - Just can’t nail it as an AFL player. Trade for a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick.
  4. McNiece - Never will be an AFL player, at best a good VFL player.
  5. Baguely - Retire to VFL.
  6. Myers - Retire to VFL.
  7. Z.Clarke - Retire to VFL. Not an AFL ruckman.
  8. Long - Had his chances but can’t cement a place in the AFL side.
  9. The following have been at EFC for a number of years and have played very few games or none at all. Are they clogging up the list - Begley, Mynott, Houlahan, Ridley.
Players whose time at Essendon needs to be looked at as part of the future of the playing list - Zaharkis, Hooker, Dea, Jok,.
For season 2020 long term injury players need to show something or their time at EFC may conclude - Stewart, Daniher and Laverde.
The Coach. Should Woosha pack his bags and belongings and stay in Fremantle/Perth next week and not return for 2020? Harvey can coach for the Collingwood game.
Three things to ask of Woosha. 1. Why keep playing the old and the hacks, like Myers, Baguley, McNiece and Langford, instead of some of the young, fit players who should be playing for their spot on the 2020 list - Houlahan, Ridley, Mynott, Jok, Zerk-Thatcher .
? They couldn’t be any worse than some picked for last night. 2, why do you keep dropping Hartley? The one player who has had a top 2019 season whether it is in the VFL or AFL. 3. Why didn’t EFC use the second mid-year draft pick to select another ruckman? Once Draper went down for the rest of 2019 (and then T-Bell), asking light weight Z,Clarke to be the number one ruckman was totally irresponsible. A 206cm -105 kg. ruckman should have been selected. There were a number of players of this size and weight available. How will Clarks go against the Fremantle giant next Saturday?
Time for a thorough review of EFC from top to bottom. Last night’s effort MUST NEVER BE REPEATED.

It’s also important to mention the 17 years of pent up anger over lack of direction and performance. The anger is not just directed at the players… it’s at the whole administration aswell.
Let’s also mention the mental wounds that EFC supporters have gone through with the SAGA aswell. There is a lot of underlying hostility towards the clubs administration.

Obviously the whole club has changed personnel since the SAGA and prior… but that also incites expectations of new people at the club with the directed tension from supporters ‘to provide results now, or get out’.
All while new people coming into the club are looking for fresh starts, clean slates, and opportunities to prove themselves… supporters just want results right now.

Worsfold p*ssed me off when he arrived at the club, and was talking as if the supporters jumped on the Essendon band wagon when he got there, and that it’s a ‘new club, it’s a fresh start’.

It’s not a new club. It’s not a fresh start for supporters.

We’ve copped these results for 17 years, and very few administrators at the club have been there, that whole time.

One of his quotes was “just because we’re a big club, doesn’t mean supporters can demand instant success”.

“Instant success”… as if we haven’t sat through multiple regimes promising to deliver success if. As if we haven’t been the most unsuccessful club in the last 10 years.

Different regimes… same sh*t.
