EPL 2017/18 Thread

Report I saw said heart attack, but that was early on.

Same thing happened with a St Louis Cardinals pitcher a few years ago. Just didn’t wake up. (Darrel Kite?)

There was a game in England a few years ago where a player had one on field. Didn’t die but scared the ■■■■ out of everyone.

There was a spate of Spanish players a few years back. More than a little suspicious really.

FA Cup game vs Spurs that was called off.

Too much pimentón in the paella? Dodgy chorizo? Unpasteurised manchego?

Arsenal’s 45 points after 29 games is less than the 48 points David Moyes managed at Manchester United after the same number of games.

Surely the club can’t let this go on.

He needs a firm tap on the shoulder.

Surely once they are out of Europe he is gone.

EPL Club Owners Roman Abramovich, Stan Kroenke Make 2018 Forbes Billionaire List
RORY MARSDEN
MARCH 7, 2018

Chelsea’s Russian owner Roman Abramovich applauds, as players celebrate their league title win at the end of the Premier League football match between Chelsea and Sunderland at Stamford Bridge in London on May 21, 2017.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke have been named in Forbes magazine’s latest list of global billionaires.

According to the list, topped by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Russian Abramovich is worth $10.8 billion, while American Kroenke is worth $8.3 billion.

Eclipsing both of them in the world of football is Alisher Usmanov. The Uzbek-born businessman owns 30 per cent of Arsenal and, according to Forbes, boasts wealth of $12.5 billion.

Tottenham Hotspur’s owner, Joe Lewis, is also named on the list due to his $5 billion fortune, which puts him above United States President Donald Trump (estimated worth $3.1 billion).

Abramovich, 51, paved the way for the current ubiquity of foreign owners in the Premier League when he bought Chelsea for £140 million ($233 million) back in the summer of 2003.

His early splurges in the transfer market—on the likes of Hernan Crespo, Claude Makelele, Didier Drogba and Juan Sebastian Veron—and the hiring of Jose Mourinho as manager led to a brief dominance for the Blues in England as they won back-to-back Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006.

The west London outfit have remained a force in the English top flight ever since and become one of Europe’s best clubs.

However, Chelsea’s competitors responded to Abramovich’s spending power. The Blues have been more moderate in their transfer outlay recently, especially when compared to Manchester City and Manchester United, per Tony Banks in the Express.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have long been playing catchup in the spending arena despite the huge wealth of their owners.

Recent splurges on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Shkodran Mustafi and Granit Xhaka have ended the Gunners’ reputation as a frugal club.

But it has not proved enough to propel Arsenal to the status of Premier League contenders once again.

Very interesting development, Riyad Mahrez has announced his retirement from football due to health concerns, according to his own Facebook account. People are not sure if it is true, whether his account has been hacked, and whether he has “retired” in order to get released by Leicester City and then subsequently sign for another club as a free agent, given his attempts to leave the Foxes have been denied twice in recent transfer windows…

Some reports coming through that it was a hack.

This is set up perfectly for a 0-3 win to Milan at the Emirates.

I follow Serie A closely and Milan are bog average. Was easy money today and if Arsenal are half serious they will win the return leg comfortably

half serious is something we do well
