Essendon's List Cloggers

After watching Essendon’s performance on Friday night I asked at random 20 Essendon supporters this question: “Do you want Essendon to make the eight and play finals”? Eighteen said NO, two YES. Most remarked on the last two games’ losses and giving up the chance to make the top four. This got me thinking about the players on Essendon’s list. What is missing? Why can’t we beat a team 14th on the ladder and are missing several of their top players? Why haven’t we got the enthusiasm and desire to win like the young Hawthorn side is currently displaying?
Every week the same list cloggers get a game. Why is it that one player only, Caddy is the only player who has played from the 2023 draft nominees? There is a tendancy to get players who have been discarded by their former club to come to Essendon. Yes,there are a few gems, but many could be regarded as hacks.
It is time to get the BIG BROOM OUT and cut the cloggers from the list. The folowing is my list of cloggers:
Heppell, should of retired last year.
Guelfi, good games are few and far between.
Menzie, would not Hobbs be a better selection?
Goldstein, at age 36 the game has left him behind. Play Bryan.
Stringer, has lost the ability week after week to perform at his best.
Hind, now he is number one Sub, or gets dropped.
Laverde, been an ornament to the game but age is slowing him now.
Gresham, over priced and St.Kilda were pleased to see him go.
Perkins, can be a top player, but is very disappointing now.
Kelly, not a good AFL performer, he is too inconsistent.
Shiel, age and injury have affected his ability at the top level.
Weideman, chosen to play as a forward, recruited from Melbourne, although I have listed him here, I would like the selectors to put him in the backpocket (197cm tall) as our backline is very fragile as shown on Friday night. He is worth a gamble?
The new gems now on the list are: Durham, Caldwell, Duursma, Setterfield (if he can stay fit), Martin and Hobbs.
Time now for Hayes, Roberts, Hobbs, Bryan and the Davey twins to be given an opportunity.
AGREE or DISAGREE with my comments?

I disagree this needed to be a new thread.

Perkins is having a bad run, and probably needs a full preseason with a defensive midfield mindset. It just seems that he looks lost.

Go for your life with all the rest.

Well…
At least he/she took initiative and didn’t just post the thought bubble into the non Essendon games thread.

This Blitzer has a chance yet.

Admins this a gurgeable post at best.

I agree with all apart from Perkins, whom I think should be a key plank going forwards.

There’s very little wrong in what he’s posted. Hard for the clappers to swallow

So your proposal is basically that we blow it all up and start again?

I agree that Heppell, Goldstein, Sheil and Weideman should go at the end of the year (and that none of them should play again this year unless we suffer a catastrophic injury surge).

But you cannot just gut 30% of the list in one swoop.

Tsatas, Hobbs and Bryan should be getting games based on displayed form from the twos.

Roberts also probably.

Hayes and the Davey boys have done little to show that they deserve a run at this stage.

As ridiculous as it is, we are only a game and percentage away from 2nd spot.

Do I expect us to come out and win the remaining games?

No…I’ll be surprised if we manage another win this year (so get games into Tsatas, Hobbs and Bryan) but one of the biggest problems with poor teams is the continual turnover of too many players.

Rightly or wrongly, the club has clearly decided that Scott is the coach to take us forward…so (imo) we have to sit back and see what he does and I doubt that he is interested in high list turnover at this stage.

I have a slightly different take.
Players I would delist:

Menzie (too bad the club renewed his contract)
Goldstein
Heppell
Baldwin
Wanganeen
Weideman
Stringer

I’d put the following players up for trade:

Draper
Shiel

I’d renew the following:

Caldwell
Cox
Guelfi
Hayes
Hind
Jones
Kelly

I’d rookie:

Davey Jnr

We’ve been beaten by teams that have plenty of list cloggers. Having some ordinary players on the list us neither here nor there.

It’s why are our good players bar Merret so mentally weak, unaccountable and just happy to roll over every year that’s the real problem.
