EvanšŸ Returns

Hows that clean air working out?

Hird is irrelevant to the discussion - Evans made a catastrophic mistake in agreeing to a JOINT INVESTIGATION - All he had to do was open the doors and allow ASADA to SOLELY conduct an investigation - Do this and players may or may not have been charged by ASADA - And if players were charged it would have ended at the AFL’s Anti-Doping Tribunal.

Finally, Evans doesn’t need to say a word. He needs to make sure he never walks back into the club.

ā– ā– ā– ā–  off Evans

Team carps has been silenced by fascist mods.

he certainly wont be the last either.

There’s no point hating Evans. Hold him in contempt if you like, but I think hating him is over the top.

This is a guy who had a very competent, ruthless, legendarily tough father, and he got his start in business - and plenty of leg-ups on the way - due to his father’s name. He became mates with James Hird, he became mates with a lot of other top people in footy, he eventually stepped into the top job at Essendon, and most likely none of it would ever have happened if he had a different surname. Thing is, he probably never realised this.

Then he gets thrown into a really tough situation when his mate Vlad calls him to let him know the ACCC are after his club. This would have tested the very best managers and leaders in the business world. And as the saga drags on, Evans realises he simply isn’t one of them. Tougher, smarter, more ruthless people at the AFL turn him inside out and take him to the cleaners. People who he genuinely thought were his mates sucker him, or throw him to the wolves. He does a deal with the AFL because he expects everything to be handled by mates, like mates, over a glass of wine somewhere because that’s how it’s always worked for him. He realises too late what’s really happened, the his ā€˜mates’ long ago decided to sacrifice him and his club, that he’s been gulled into burning Hird on behalf of people who don’t give a ā– ā– ā– ā–  about him, that his failures have brought the footy club he genuinely loved to its knees, and that he’s exposed enough legally that his lawyer is warning him he can never talk about what happened because he’d expose himself to prosecution and/or massive damages.

He’s failed, in the most vivid and spectacular way possible. He can’t even deny the plain fact of his own staggering failure to himself, cos he’s reminded of it every time he opens a newspaper or every time he goes to call someone and then realises ā€˜oh, yeah, they aren’t my friend any more’. Could he come clean and help the club out? Probably yeah, but how many people here calling for his blood could say, hands on hearts, would say that they’d do it knowing that it could mean prison time or huge fines?

I’m not surprised he broke down. But as I said, there’s no point hating him - you almost certainly can’t hate him as much as he hates himself.

Unless you know him personally, that’s a big presumption. Overtly he seems to be getting on with the business with no such depth of feeling.

Nasty and unnecessary.

It’s a passive/aggressive equivalent to a reach-around.

Call him a c*nt if you want but don’t feel him up on the way through.

You read things funny.
It suggests he was duped by bastards he thought were mates and that as much as people here are demanding he ā€˜do the right thing’ they should question whether they would given the terrible position he’s found himself in.

Not only sympathetic but generous, I’d call it, because it doesn’t address the astoundingly poor original decision he made or the repercussions that he was fully aware of. Were, in fact, explicitly part of the deal he bought into.

Thanks for the read HM. Well put.

It’s a passive/aggressive equivalent to a reach-around.

Call him a c*nt if you want but don’t feel him up on the way through.

I don’t think he is a ā– ā– ā– ā– . I think he tried his best. I think his intentions were probably good. I think he was caught in a vice, and he failed. Doesn’t make him evil, or malicious in any way. Everyone fails sometimes - because he was in such a prominent position, his failure just happened to be much more public, spectacular, and hurt more people.

What munna1 said.

No, I’m not expecting it to happen.

But, but, but…it was all in the fairytale I read last night!

Anyone who thinks more dirt could hurt this club is, to quote Essendon's bestest friend in the media, farking delusional. Essendon is the most despised, divided, ā– ā– ā– ā–  club in the league. It has NO reputation left to protect.

And you seem to want to make it worse.

Exactly how does spilling more dirt help a club that has already had its reputation trashed? It’s dirt that trashes a reputation, isn’t it?

Yes, our reputation has been trashed. The trashing will be revived when WADA comes on in November, no matter what the result. But that will be the end of it.

There’s only one way to rebuild a reputation, and that’s by actions that prove that the past is behind you.

A deluge of vitriol aimed at proving your reputation should never have been trashed in the first place a) won’t work, and b) will actually make your reputation even worse.

If you think WADA is going to be the end of it I think you will find you are sadly mistaken. I fear the end of the WADA part will merely be the end of the beginning. I think this has a long way to go.

Like sand through the hour glass - all the days of our lives

Hird is irrelevant to the discussion - Evans made a catastrophic mistake in agreeing to a JOINT INVESTIGATION - All he had to do was open the doors and allow ASADA to SOLELY conduct an investigation - Do this and players may or may not have been charged by ASADA - And if players were charged it would have ended at the AFL's Anti-Doping Tribunal.

Oh nooooo! Now we’re being accused of smoking joints! When will this all end???

I don’t understand the whole saga at all but don’t get the Evans hate.

It is easy in hindsight to say he shouldn’t have ā€œself reportedā€ but at the time it was what most would have done and appeared to be the best thing for the club.

That was two years ago and we know what happened since but at the time he/we thought we had done nothing and that allowing an investigation would be quick, easy and clear us to play footy.

Too many heroes on Blitz these days.

So maybe try to understand the first part of the saga?
I think people were a little upset to find out he was at the meeting that decided how the investigation would be corrupted from the start, and all that entailed.

lol at revisionsist. Sure some here have only recently come to realise the mistakes Evans made but FFS some were also very clear that self reporting & the Ziggy were monumental mistakes from the start.

So would it satisfy you if Evans threw himself on the ground at the feet of James Hird, admitted his sins and begged forgiveness.

Or are you just going to hate him forever?

You think we have a problem with Evans just because of how he treated Hird?

The problem I have with Evans is the way he treated us ALL.

Yes, exactly.
If you’ve got nothing nice to say, say nothing. Unknown was brought up well.
Obviously, duck tape across the mouth.
