Ex #33 Brayden Ham - sliced

The moment where he burnt Shiel by hand is the selfish and completely unnecessary error he makes all the time. Never gives that handball to the guy in the better position.

Other than that and the missed goal it was easily his best, most competitive game for the season

That miss in the last quarter was a soda.

Was good tonight i thought, one of our very few players that defends with purpose as opposed to pretending to guard grass.

Tries but not up to it at AFL level.

Another nothing game of 11 possessions and a no pressure miss but probably will keep his spot for who knows what reason. Offers very minimal week in week out.

I was really surprised tonight.
This kid is really a bit of an enigma.

The comments above are spot on.
There is definitely some underlying talent and ability and his efforts tonight showed that he desperately wants to make it. But he is swimming against the tide.

If he was a dog he would be a fear biter.

It’s like that thing you do on Team Building events when you let yourself fall backwards knowing that others will catch you and you just trust in the outcome.

He won’t make it unless he lets go of that inherent FEAR that is ever present in him.
Occasionally he rises above it, only to quickly subside again.

I think he’s actually improved quite a bit on some of his weaknesses from last year.
To my eye his composure with ball in hand is much better and I now don’t feel like he’s going to completely ā– ā– ā– ā–  himself whenever anyone goes near him. His physicality has also definitely improved.

He needs to keep working on defensive pressure and finishing when he gets a look at the goals.
Getting the ball more I think will come. He’s accumulated reasonably well in the past and I think that will come with a regular run and a bit more confidence.

So while I’m not a massive fan I am seeing signs of improvement and it’s a little disappointing that most people in here have completely written him off.

Ham not bad.
Ham good.

I don’t think it is disappointing.
To be fair all the past criticism has been absolutely warranted.

He has improved.
But honestly, he hasn’t earned that opportunity to improve, he has been gifted games that he hasn’t deserved on merit.

Unfortunately it is impossible to assess the opportunity cost of that.

I think it is fair to say that he owes our team improvement and he better pay up.

He’s improved but still a mile off it. Not an AFL footballer

He is a tough one to assess in a way. On the one hand he is a goer, gets involved, runs everywhere, throws himself around a bit, reads the play pretty well. But it is like watching a pinball, he just bounces off everything with little impact for the most part. He goes to tackle and just bounces off the player, he gets tackled and it is like watching a puppy being pushed down by a big dog with their paw. He is small and he doesn’t seem to have the ability to to do other things that lesson that issue, he doesn’t have any standout attributes.

Lots of hate on this kid tonight, but he did some very nice things and applied more pressure than any other player on the field. Sure he missed a crucial goal, but so did Wright. I get it that he is limited, but as the 22nd player picked, if he keeps tonight’s form up, you can’t be critical.

11 players had more pressure acts then Ham.

He’s a good athlete with no footy IQ.

Showed signs of using the footy better and in more considered fashion. The pass into Stringer a perfect example of what he needs to do. A shame he missed that goal because the way he hit that contest was perfect.

Needs to keep improving though, spots are going to be tight and he’s not best 22 at full strength.
