Favourite Debut Albums

Maybe there should be a thread about origins of song ideas, album names etc.

Me and Bobby McGee and Midnight Train to Georgia have unusual/quirky origin stories, for instance.

And the Album title Five leaves left.

Permission to Land - The Darkness is a personal favourite.
Not in the same realm as Appetite For Destruction, though.

I was going to put what I thought was Eminem’s debut but similarly he’d realesed something earlier. You can’t buy it now or I believe even then, one of those there were 300 copies sold in person or at a handful of local stores.

Not sure where the line should be drawn.

Yeah… if we’re going to be technical Tori Amos (who I nominated) had a short-lived band called Y Can’t Tori Read who released a (terrible) major-label album in the late 80’s…

Assuming we exclude EP’s etc and stick with studio albums, just as they come to mind:

GNR - Appetite
Pearl Jam - Ten
AIC - Facelift
The Cranberries - Everybody Else
The Doors - The Doors
Oasis - Definitely Maybe
Hendrix - Experienced
The Clash - The Clash
De La Soul - three foot high

Many of what I had in mind have already been mentioned so I’ll note a couple of favourites

Decapitated- Winds of Creation redefined a genre

Mayhem- De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is one of the more notorious debut albums ever released (if one ignores their several EPs and demos)

Emperor- In the Nightside Eclipse

Oh my…
Have never heard of this, and doubt very much that the music itself would be my cuppa, but you’re right… having just looked it up, that record (and band) does have quite the back story…
