Here’s my review of the club

Nothing will change at all from it. Why even waste their time?

He’s still on Melbourne’s senior list but can’t crack the team - hence why he has played for their vfl team for a few years now.

Yes, hence the second half of my post,

All of Melbourne, Collingwood, Richmond, Carlton and Geelong have way stronger VFL teams than we do. Not by a little bit, but 12 to 15 goals stronger.
All of them have a similar bottom end of list demographic as we do, eg. kids drafted in to the AFL… Are there kids that much better than ours? No. The difference is in the other side of the list, the VFL players. They all operate on the same cap as we do.

What a complete and utter waste of time this review will be. The review was summed up by Brasher in a sentence: the change will be incremental rather than transformational. What’s the point then? A review implies independency of assessment, but wheeling out the Wellman, Madden and Sheedy only perpetuates the problem.

Whilst I disagree with this stance - it should have been made public in the members address.

‘We understand progress is not linear, we are clear where we are and as such do not require an external review. However internally we will review how best to maximise the current setup’ etc etc etc.

Even though they were premiers they still retain a nucleus of good replacements in the event of injuries. Melksham, Brown, Hibbert etc. Unlike the EFC who yearly cut all their back-up players in the hope that someone drafted at 70 will be able to step immediately into the team.
Melbourne seems to have good intelligent list management.

Peggy O’Neal works at a major sponsor of the club. The right person is literally at arms length.

looking forward to the presentation of the review findings to the board

“did y’all know there’s a victorian football league? and that we have a team in it?”

I don’t disagree that melbourne have good list management.

I would disagree that it’s due to recruiting and retaining mitch brown is good list management. They would need to be in a big injury hole to play him as evidenced by him playing 6 out of 50 odd games since 2020 (and 5 being in 2020).

But they’re clearly doing a lot of other stuff right.

How many premierships will they need to win before you acknowledge their list management?

I could be wrong but this sudden u turn on conducting a football side of things review smacks of Sheedy agitation in and around the Boardroom. He probably can’t get close to the Operational side of the EFC where X and Brasher control it all. But I bet he’s got hold of Madden and to a degree Wellman on the quiet and pushed for this. He knows the fans, the real fans are filthy with our season and some of those embarrassing efforts served up. And he’s probably scathing of Truck’s coaching, our coaches and ■■■■■ gameplan to date. He’s the only one apart from an external review that has a chance of landing a few hard home truths this season.

Brasher though. Well some timely letters into him have helped turn the tide in his head too imao, along with us as a team regularly being humiliated in the media. We’re a joke in terms of progression and consistency since last year and nope, injuries aren’t the reason and that old chestnut about linear improvement can help itself into the cannon and ■■■■ off too. Tough draw but the system being implemented and coaching levels illustrated in games says it all. That first half against the Cats in R1 after all the bullshit being pumped out re: pre season should’ve triggered an external review right then. It was that bad.

I’m conflicted. We’ve got FC, Saints, WC (away), Swans, Lions and then Suns. WC aside, if we get close to those or even pull off a win or two then as a diehard fan, great. But irritatingly it won’t help launch the rocket that report needs to deliver to truly shake things up. Brasher already watering it down. So I just hope Sheedy has one last effort in him to turn the blowtorch on the whole mess that our football progression has become for way way too long and rip our Board a huge one

Wellman, Madden et al … stand aside and let Sheedy run at it. Its our best chance to short circuit this unfolding 2022 crisis.

did he really ask the burning questions though? Did any of these get a run:

  • why not an external review?

  • by what metrics was X’s contract extended?

  • what weight were X’s football department decision of the last 5 years given in the decision to extend him?

I think you are looking way too much into it. Club is going terribly, made some poor PR choices, members are clearly ■■■■■■ off, lets placate them by getting some Essendon people who are also board members to conduct a surface level review.

What does the EFC Constitution have recorded as its purpose for incorporation as a NFP public company?

That’s reasonable.
Especially when you consider, I take an Oz Lotto ticket every week expecting to win.
Trouble is I’ve been taking it since its inception and the best collect I’ve had is about $130.

8 should be enough.

You may be right. Head says its possibly a PR driven teflon lite exercise. Heart says its Sheedy rolling his sleeves up when no other bastard has the gonads to rock the boat proper.

This announcement is lip service. “Internal Review”, give me a break….

Looking at it another way though, they rarely need to account for said injuries because they are well on top of their fitness + conditioning, meaning they put out a strong, consistent 22 every single week, maybe losing 1 or 2 occasionally which they are able to replace.

Look at their median age per game from last year - their ressies aren’t ever getting a look in
