Former #10 Sam Weideman

We got mckernan back.

It was the exact same reaction from blitz at this stage of his career. ā€œNo wonder Gold Coast got rid of him and paid half his salary.ā€

In fact, after his 4th game, one poster wanted the captain to publicly shame him for being soft.

I’m not saying he will certainly turn it around the way 2MP did. But if he does turn it around, it will probably take a similar time frame as it did with 2MP. I.e. More than a few games.

I think unfortunately thats why he wasnt geting games at Melb. Unless he finds some mungrul in him i cant see him on our list for long

I would keep him in, give him a couple of games in a row.Helping out in the ruck is most definitely not a role he does well.

If he can’t find an aggressive streak soon, he will be gone pretty quickly

He’s on massively borrowed time with the supporter base. Amazing what good footy record height/weight and a standard haircut can do for hope.

At this stage I would much rather watch Baldwin up there

I’m less confident of Weideman making it than I was 2MP, but I think he needs a bit more of a run at it in this system before being written off.

I think he lacks self belief which Scott will no doubt try to work on. Its amazing what a bit of confidence can do.

Could be worse I suppose. The bloke that Brisbane is paying upwards of $750k for had 7 touches and 0.4 this week.

3 rounds in. I think realistically he has got this year to show the club he has value as a fwd/ruck. If he doesn’t fill the spot in that time then we have a hole in our list that requires immediate attention via trade or FA.

I want weideman to succeed, but would prefer Jones or Voss in the ruck and forward,
We really need to give Weideman a block of games to show confidence in him, sadly that means dropping Jones who was the better player (than Weid) to fit VOSS in…or leaving VOSS out which would be very Harsh on the young lad.

Not even thinking in terms of this week, more for the future. Realistically we need two tall targets and a ruck/fwd for our structure.
Best case scenario I think it is Wright, then Jones/Voss/Stringer and Weid as fwd ruck.

Given Wright is out we need two of Voss/Jones and Stringer. Then Weid to play ruck/fwd.

Stringer, as good as he can be, creates a problem for us. He isn’t a genuine tall fwd, but doesn’t provide enough leg speed once the ball is on the ground. I said in another thread I would drop Jones purely so he can work on his game in the VFL and to build his confidence, but tbh I think our structure looks better with Jones/Voss and Weid. Then 2 genuine smalls (plus maybe one on the bench). After that Perkins is competing with Stringer for the small/medium role.

If Weid can’t play that role, we actually need to find someone who can. At the moment I don’t think they exist on our list.

No mention of a place for Langford. He must fit into the equation somewhere.

Yeah I think he is competing with Perkins and Stringer. Tbh we have a log jam there, and it is a list problem. If/when Heppell goes out then perhaps Langford rolls onto the wing opposite Durham with Martin as rotation.

I think I would probably prefer Wright Fwd/Ruck and leave Phillips out. Peter is 2M. And coming back from injury might be good way to get involved.

hf: Stringer Jones/Wedeiman Menzie
f: Davey Wright VOSS
int: Perkins
Sub Guelfi

Menzie and Davey started well, but Guelfi will be eyeing off one of their spots.
Hopefully stringer playing more midfield time too.

Another post with no mention of Langford. I don’t know why he is suddenly held in such high disregard.

Soft. As. Butter.

Love to see a Venn diagram of those praising him after round 1.

WEEEEEEEED

Who was a key forward who played well on Sat night? No-one. I would also put to you that the forward entries were largely putrid. Our team suffered some much from inferred pressure it’s not funny. At least Stringer jumped at a marking contest which brought the ball to ground and resulted in a goal.
Game was over when Lanford dropped an easy chest mark in the backline.
