Former #2 Big Sammy Draper

How the hell did I forget those two. :joy::joy::joy::joy:

Kako will be the one picked for sure. Kids love his hair.

I’d rather be optimistic, I think we have a solid group of young -mid 20’s players but your right

Even with the current list we still lack genuine A grade talent across the board and that’s including Merrett.

It’s really all about our development. Even if we somehow get multiple top draft picks over several years we still have to develop their talent and give them the best chance to succeed.

There’s no point drafting players like Tsatas and then you barely play them for multiple seasons. Even guys like Hobbs are still being played out of position when they are named in the team.

That’s why if we are going to rebuild it has to be done properly. Luckily we have some talented NGA and a specific father son over the next few years that we are all excited about.

Because he’s bog average and not a top 10 player at the club for starters.

And is easy to name 10 that would be paid more. McGarth, Parish, Langford, Caldwell, Merrett, Shiel, Gresham :face_vomiting:, Ridley, Wright, McKay and so on.

Nope.

But it’s close.

He ain’t a top 10 ruck and there is nothing in 9 years which is concrete that shows he was projecting to be a top 5 ruckb or even to 10 at this point in time.

He’s had the odd cameo game here or there, along with 9 seasons of needing his hand held by another ruckman because he couldn’t solo ruck, when almost every other club ran with 1 main ruck.

His 2025 form which most are claiming was evidence he was finally fulfilling his potential was largely in the forward line until Bryan went down and he had 6 quarters against Melbourne and 3 quarters against the statistically worst team in the AFL era as solo ruck.

People continually talk about needing to take our medicine and rebuild properly, then spit the dummy when we may get decently compensated for a 9 year ruckman, who has 1 full injury free season of AFL, and in 9 years hasn’t managed a top 10 B+F in let’s be honest a bog average team.

Out of interest what part of his ruck work makes him top 5?

Even luckier we have a ā€œrebuildā€ coach

They are banking on Sam getting to pre achilles rupture fitness and physical capability to benefit from his best footy lying ahead.
There’s significant doubt he’ll get there.

Ban worthy comment.

Is he actually still contracted ?

if he isn’t then I’d hope he isn’t doing any rehab at the club .

He’s made his bed deal with it

I think the rehab component was a large part of the delay in announcing his departure.

So Allen (who is completely cooked) nets pick 2 which pushes back our early picks.

Draper nets a pick in the 20s which we will likely need to move to avoid a Sweid bid.

Fark this.

I think Draper will improve. His physicality around the ground was underrated. He won’t get as much attention for Brisbane in the forward line. He was looking very good this year imo. Coming into his best years.

If we get band 2 we essentially signed jade ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  Gresham on 700k a year to lose Draper for nothing.

Well played…..

Just wait on this. No point jumping at shadows. Both players contracts will be common knowledge within the clubs and player manager space, so the AFL will have to make a fairly transparent decision. If Allen’s contract is a lot bigger then they can justify it, but i don’t see how it will be.

I’ve got mixed emotions.

I have no ill feelings towards Sammy as this is the system that we now have to deal with. I wish him all the best.

Brisbane on the other hand, I hope they get zero output from Allen and Drapes and shoot themselves in the achilles.

Bryan is already a better ruck than Draper.

For sure there’s a gamble.

Also thought about it a bit more.

I think after 9? years, Sam realises his window is now.

He might be collecting the 5 year deal but yeah he may only be physically good to have a swing at a flag in the next 3.

Same reason Merrett and Ridley are seeing the light.

26/27 plus yr old players are going to be really hard to attract too Essendon.
