Former #25 Jake Stringer (Part 2)

Yeah thats a cop out.

Players shouldnt be blowing out because they get injured.
Im glad I didnt need to post first,

Even the photos of Jake the other day show that he just simply carries far too much weight around the mid section to not be constantly injured playing this game.

No he isnt fat. Yes he is still about 5-7kgs too heavy.
In todays game, no serious player should have their stomach fat and waist visible through a footy jumper.
You might be talented enough to be like that and still play but you’ll never get the best from yourself and you will be injured more often.

Better not look at Tippa then.

I agree, his body shape doesn’t look right.
But he’s had that similar body shape since he’s come to the club.
I don’t see it changing anytime soon.
He can no longer be relied upon to go into the middle as often as he did in 2021. So we work with what we have and hope we find alternative options across the season.

:+1:t4:

stringer has been like this for years though. he has never presented himself in great condition for years, this view isnt just off the back of last year. for me, anyway

What really stood out to me was that he hasn’t run over 2km for eight years. For a professional athlete in a sport with a huge endurance focus, that’s staggering.

It could just be, that he performs at the level he does despite his physical ailments.

when you say physical ailments, i presume you mean hamburger addiction

2k in what, a game?

where is this stat?

I thought exactly the same thing.
WTF are our fitness staff doing?

  1. Get him out of the gym.
  2. Get him down to the pool, teach him how to swim properly, and get him churning out laps. Like, kilometers of laps. This will build up his cardio without the weight bearing. Get him running distances in soft sand on the beach, again more cardio value and less impact on the joints.
  3. Get him doing regular yoga and pilates to develop his flexibilty and agility. He runs like he has a stick up his ā– ā– ā– ā– , he needs to create space in his joints and flexibilty in his muscles.
  4. Nutrition and diet.

If he doesn’t/won’t do it, then simples - he plays VFL.

He has so much natural football ability and skills that he hardly needs to be out there this time of the year kicking a footy around. He only needs a few weeks before the season to get his timing right.

Nah, I mean groin and back strain.

It’s a direct quote in the Cornes article posted above.

I believe it is a 2km continuous run that is referred to - not 2km throughout an entire game.

most (not all) of jakes injuries are related to his conditioning. its the big gigantic circle he’s been going around in for a while. get somewhat fit, get injured, gain weight, get injured again, get fit again and so forth

i mean, look at the way he presented back to pre season training. thats not his groins, that’s him just being undisciplined. he’s very lucky he survives on sheer natural brilliance. i do like Scott’s take on him though, you just know he knows jake aint fit enough full stop and he’s not playing until he is. whether that’s round 1 or 6, so be it

the frustration is that he could be absolutely anything if he committed himself 110% - he’s a brilliant player when he’s on, but he’s not reliable

15 games,22 goals last season

The bloke is overweight and played with a sore groin and still magaged to be a dangerous forward

Have to acept that’s how Stringer is as long as he can contribute he wil be fine

Nobody is questioning that.

Just imagine if he was fit and not injured and can play all 23 game, what he could do. That’s the frustration

I agree but unfortunately might be too late

Been on this band wagon for a couple of years. Totally unacceptable. He is an athlete in a professional sporting organization FFS.

And the club is not without fault for letting it carry on.

Im not sure why people are getting up in arms about Jake anymore. Hes an uncommitted, talented footballer. There have been plenty of those at many clubs. Foolishly believing he will change after 10 years in the AFL system then getting upset when he doesnt change, is your own fault.

I love Jakey, he is a match winner, big time player… gonna have a good season.

If I had the talent that Jake had, and could pull $600k playing footy without maximum effort and sacrifice, then I’d do exactly the same.
