Sounds like he was expecting to be greeted with open arms and instead found that there were very few people from his era there. Hopefully it means ex teammates like Heppell, Hurley etc couldn’t be bothered being there to meet him.

A few responses to address …firstly… Multiple journos who have been on this for a long time have reported that we were offering more money than St Kilda.
He’s behind Rowan Marshall at St Kilda, one of the best ruckmen in the comp this year at only 23 who rucked one out virtually the entire season. They might let Bruce go to the Dogs but have an absolute jet forward/ruck in King waiting in the wings, as well as McCartin and of course Membrey.
They delisted a group of rucks who played what 2 games between them last year? He’s going there as depth. Their key foward / ruck stocks are WAY in front of ours, particularly if Joe leaves.
The something that was out of place was knowing that if he come back…His wallet would not be as full as if he joined the place down the road.
I wouldn’t be reading any more into it than that.

But I guess what I’m saying is that we don’t have context to those thoughts, and he may not even know what is underlying those thoughts, but you can be 100% sure whichever journos were involved would have been desperately leading him to get the “Essendon is fked” sound bite. They probably were trying hard to get the “then I remembered the stress the club put me through by poisoning my unborn children” sound bite, but couldn’t get it!
