Former #30 Patrick Ryder - we dodged the bullet

Why would Draper be playing in the VFL?

Oh my word, you just quoted Browne to back up your argument

Even worse, he never said Essendon’s offer was bigger than Saints, just that it was attractive.

Unless he’s a total and utter thunderkent!!! Why are you humouring him, he shat on the club last time and 1st opportunity he’s done it again. More fool anyone who gives this shitstain any credibility.

The only factual part of the article is that Judas finds money attractive.

Lol Well it is at least something which is a mile in front of ā€˜the vibe’ which seems to be everyone else’s argument.

I have no wish for Ryder to be at Essendon. None. But the facts remain that those calling the shots did. He could have chosen St Kilda for a thousand reasons and gone on his merry way which would have been just fine by me.

But he chose to point out that he had issues with the feel of the club. Something I might add that many have been saying for quite a while.

So then, of course, you look deeper. Well I do. And to me, there’s something not right, hasn’t been for a while. It’s not as simple as change the coach, or get this player or that player. It’s cultural and we can ignore it and hope it improves, like we have for years, or we can confront it. I don’t have the answers but unless we ask the right questions, the hard unpalatable questions, we never will.

But you are looking at it from miles away and have no idea. Which is fine and you have the right to an opinion but at the same time your opinion doesn’t count when you make things up to make your point.

Either way it’s very bad manners to take a swipe at a club that has offered you a lifeline.

:open_mouth: Did you just offer Tom Browne up as a reference for substantiating something??

Yowza Darli. I don’t think that’s going to assist your cause at all. :smirk:

What’s it ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  matter ?

He’s not coming back to Essendon — so move on, nothing to see here…

Time to lock this thread !

Well yes it is an opinion. It is, however, an opinion that’s based on fact. Sure I’ve certainly filled in some gaps but I can assure you nothing is made up.

Browne is on Connors payroll

Media pressure to get Saints to lift offer again. They needed him more than we did.

Didn’t say anything about it being better money at EFC.

Connors just playing Saints off against Essendon to get best terms for Ryder which is all the two of them would have ever wanted.

Disagree, you don’t post facts, you post opinion.

I said that media had been reporting for a while that we were offering more than St Kilda, a couple of people suggested I made that up, so I quickly grabbed a tweet from the guy who’s been breaking the story for a few months.
I couldn’t give a sh*t about Tom Browne, I said it had been reported, was told I was wrong, so I showed it being reported. It was in multiple other stories and mentioned on panel shows too, didn’t plan on spending hours finding all of them.
Jesus people

Wtf you are extrapolating his remarks so ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  much. Ryder says he didn’t get a good feel coming back to the club… No ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  ā– ā– ā– ā– .

You are truly speaking out your ā– ā– ā–  on this one, as you have many times in the past.

Darli I’m
Telling you I know we offered less and was told by someone in our football department. I understand if you don’t believe me, that’s your prerogative. No offence taken.

Just contrary to Tom Browne, Gerard whateley said Ryder’s preference was essendon but he wanted them to lift their offer and meet him
Half way in terms of saints deal.

I’m certainly not suggesting things are all rosy at the club and think some of your points were/are valid but on ryder they offered better terms.

Very glad he didn’t nominate us… I still can’t understand why we even offered him a chance to come back.

Having said that… There may well have been an element of him coming back to the club and not feeling good about it. The torment, the drama, the saga, the whole circus… would have come flooding back when he stepped inside. Part of him would know that the fan base was divided in opinion… there is a good chance that some of his mates at the club would have been as ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– ā–  as the fans were that he ā€˜broke’ the bond…

So it might have a line ball decision and in the end he decided the fresh start would be the better option. In my opinion it probably is.

i would have welcomed him back if he signed on.

saints had the better offer we move on to our next target.

i think Ryder missed all the good things about EFC, but when came back remembered the bad stuff and felt guilty about leaving.

Had our offer been the best one he still could have worked past that I believe.

you dont get mercaneries to be the third ruckman and play VFL.

Saints desperate for a ruck given they just gave two the flick, so paid over market value for Ryder. i cant imagine any saints supporter is crowing about it though.

Thanks for clarifying.

Do you read anything into his comments re the feel of the club?

He didn’t get a good feel as a result of the shitstorm he went through with saga not because of how it is right now

I’m sure memories flooded back about how difficult that was. As well as guilt over how he exited.

That’s my take
