If people thought he had hammy issues at the hawks…
Ok, so towards the end of his career he was in and out of the side after having his best years disrupted by injury. Ultimately playing 100 games. Is that better
I think it’s fairer to say that in his last season when his body was significantly wrecked by career injuries he was in and out of the side.
yep, and when asked after the draft why he didn’t draft Cyril and drafted Myers instead, Dodoro said “you can’t let sentiment get in the way of good drafting”
Let’s also not forget that Dangerfield was also available…… which most people tend to forget
You can’t let sentiment get in the way of good drafting, but you can certainly draft a guy without knowing he cant handball on his left
What’s this about?
alwyn got targetted as he was too fast for opposition players some decided they would try and hurt him as best way to stop him.
Did Rooke knock him out?
I’m not sure he adds more. TBH, it doesn’t matter who we play in that position, they aren’t AFL level small forwards.
So…he played the last four games of the 2013 season in the seniors, with the final game against Richmond on Aug 31. Davey had 78% ToG. The reserves’ last game of that season was an EF loss to Werribee the next day, Sep 1. So unless he played a full game in the firsts and then also played in the reserves the next day, he didn’t finish that season in the VFL. He also finished the 2011 and 2012 seasons playing in the seniors.
Broke his arm* i think
- possibly wrong body part
Possibly totally wrong incident in my mind
No thats the one. Fell on him and he was never the same after that.
J. Davey is still without a contract correct?
Surely we don’t invest 2 years in him post knees and then cut him. Personally, I think he is more likely to make it than Alwyn.
Gee, Lovett was a talented footballer. Another one of the ‘what might’ve been’ cohort.
I frequently see Lovett and NatRat at our games together smashing a few beers
Might be making him just sweat a bit. He needs to improve his fitness and work harder. I’m sure he will get another year but just being tough with him
Still plenty of time for him to be decided upon by the list management.
Guess it depends on who we can get.
Kako is locked in. Maybe we also take Hotton, or trade in Rosas, or someone else emerges during trade week. But J. Davey is starting from a long way back, so anyone we bring in is likely to be ahead of him in the queue (or at absolute worst, level).
We can hold off any call on him until further down the line, no team is going to swoop in to nab him.
I have a bit of a theory about the Davey twins.
You know how they kind of appear not all that physically well conditioned and they appear to play in a manner that’s a little bit lackadaisical rather than being tenacious in their approach to the game.
I wonder whether a significant reason for that lays in the psychology of knowing from a long way out that as a father/son duo, they were going to have the red carpet rolled out for them in terms of an entry into the good life of an AFL player.
I wouldn’t be surprised if that kind of mentality has made them a little too comfortable and ingrained a poor habit here and a poor habit there. A shortcut at training and recovery here, a shortcut with diet there. A willingness to rely on skill getting them by. All of this has probably gone on from even their early teen years. Possibly compounded further by the Covid interruption.
So that when things get really tough and you need to grit your teeth and be prepared to either put in the extra yards on the track and have to go into contests knowing you might get hurt, you wonder if they can meet those occasions. As opposed to someone who has had to scrap and struggle to earn a shot at an AFL existence.
That’s not to say all father sons have that mentality, there’s obviously some very good ones out there. But it would impact them in differing ways and perhaps for the twins it has made them a little complacent.
Anyway, just a thought. Besides all that, I’m a firm believer in giving Jayden another year to show a bit more considering he’s still re-adjusting to playing footy after two ACL’s. But it’s a big year for him and I hope he prepares in a manner that gives him the best shot at letting his talent shine.
