I thought it had merit and appreciated your effort in posting it.
The issue with assessing Essendon players is trying to sort between how the club’s lack of success/struggles affects a player’s development and becoming good AFL footballers versus the shortcomings of the player.
Jayden aside, sometimes you wonder what the alternative reality would have been if that exact same player had been recruited by a different club. Would it have been any different (better) or the same because they’re simply lacking in certain areas that culture/development can’t overcome.
The Captain wasn’t a fan but I appreciate your respect
Not true, he’s not from Tiwi, so couldnt ahve been added to cat B list.
maybe we could have let him through to the rookie draft, but yeh was a nice touch imo not making him wait.
Who was taken in rookie draft - Rhett Montgomerie - gone
wasn’t a great rookie draft.
NGA and F/S bidding don’t follow the same process. At the time, we had two options.
Nominate him as a F/S pick, which would allow us to match a bid in the National Draft. If nobody bid on him, we had to take him with our last pick. The F/S nomination was a contractual agreement to pick the player in the draft.
Not nominate him as a F/S pick. If someone else drafted him in the National Draft, we couldn’t do anything about it. If nobody took him, we could then nominate him, via a different process, as a F/S rookie and automatically add him to our rookie list.
The category B rookie rules only apply to NGA players, not F/S.
The F/S nomination rules have been changed this year (or have been approved to change for next year maybe, I forget), so now you can nominate a player F/S and add them to the rookie list if nobody bids on them.
If he gets delisted, it will be just another reason to walk away from this club.
It will make zero sense. Imagine what it will do to Alywn if he sees his twin walked out the door? I know that’s not a reason to keep someone, but he’s hardly had chance to show what he can do.
I just get more disillusioned every day with some of these supposed decisions on players happening.
This is the wrong attitude, his brother getting delisted might be the wake up call he needs to get desperate enough to succeed. If it is all just too hard for him draft some kids with balls.
I’m still hopeful they both come good by the way.
Being completely honest, I watched almost every game of the last half of the Vfl season and in almost all of them he barely touched the ball.
Get that he was coming back from an injury but is that really an excuse to be as far off it as he was ALL year?
Look at how Ashcroft has returned for Brisbane.
He also, like a few others clearly has issues with professionalism because his body shape was no way near the level required for most of the season.
Which is pretty normal.
Anyone who thinks that any list manager works completely opposed to the coach and the direction set by the club leaders (board and CEO) has no idea how businesses actually work.
Good or bad, decisions are made across a group of people. Not one individual.
Alwyn also has a captain whose brother got delisted a few years after being drafted too.
He might be a good sounding board in such an instance.
If Alwyn cracks the sads because his brother ends up delisted (which I don’t think will actually happen because that’s not the way AFL teams work), then he’ll be next. He needs to realise that his personal choice does not supersede that of the clubs need. He hasn’t earned that yet.
