Former #39 Patrick Voss - false messiah

8 tackles & 3 goals to 3QT. Not bad for a guy some say is ā€œNot AFL standardā€

Another guy not given a go coz brad had it in for him, forging a decent career elsewhere.

I don’t think we miss him now we have caddy, but I think at the time weid was getting games, everybody was calling for a debut all year, he won the vfl bnf, then got delisted.

Is he better than Jones, who just signed another 2 year deal?

No.

I have zero info but recall whispers or speculation on here that off field was as much or more a factor in the delisting as on field, if you catch my drift, allegedly (I seriously don’t have any info) (I know it sounds like I kinda do but I don’t) (I don’t)

Same whispers that a bunch on here also go with.
May be true, may not. We listed him as emergency a bunch of times though so it can’t have been that bad?

Was always in ripping shape.

Gerreyn will save us

Based on these surface level stats they are almost identical, except Voss kicks .07 more goals per game and 1.1 more clearances.

That’s subjective.
All I know is that he is an AFL standard player as I’ve thought all along

What’s going on with those ā€œRating Pointsā€? Jones is ā€œbelow averageā€ā€¦ but still has more than 3.5 times as many as Voss!

Would take Voss in a heartbeat over Jones.

jones has played more games.

He has, but the reason they’re both ā€œBelow Averageā€ despite how big the gap seems to be is that ā€œBelow Averageā€ covers the bottom third of players, and the top end of the scale is someone like Bontempelli who’s around 670. So the difference between 46 and 165 just isn’t that much. Like, Redman has kicked three times as many goals as Roberts, but they’re both in the category ā€œkicked ā– ā– ā– ā–  all goalsā€.

Voss looks good in a better team
He would probably suck if he played for Essendon

Voss is a far better player than Jones.

He can probably play the wing better than Jones too.

Yeah as he’s shown by kicking more goals at every level he’s played.

…checks VFL
…checks WAFL

Hmm. At least we can hope.

Both are ordinary players - Jones is just VFL standard and our coach keeps playing him. It’s crazy. With our new MSD recruits - I’d say Jones will struggle to get another game

Agreed.

It just makes the 2 year extension for Jones absolutely inexcusable.

I’m genuinely excited about Archie May. The kid has talent and will show most of our list how to train hard and prepare. Will embarrass many of our guys like Jones cox and Perkins who look unfit and under prepared for AFL football
