I personally would absolutely give him another year.
My messaging to him would be, “I think you have enough talent, but I don’t know if your body is up to it”.
…
and then make the decision next year.

I think he gets unlucky, hopefully if he is delsited he stays with the VFL program and with some good luck gets redrafted.
He should get a sub opportunity imo, he seems the type that would actually be natural at it
I’d really like to hold onto him, because he does show signs but the body is obviously a big worry.
3rd year on the rookie list too so would have to be upgraded, which could end up costing him
Players like Tex are going to have their careers killed prematurely due to the AFL culling the list size by 4 as a covid cost cutting measure.
Ran around on the half back line today and probably played his best game of the year gathering the ball and disposing of it quite well, generally. Looks good in full flight.
Give him a go. He can play.
And he can actually kick the footy
Good disposal, delist.
I was an advocate for him moving to half back last year, glad to see they tried it, it’s such an easier position to play, especially for blokes like tex with good skills but poor ball winning ability.
I have been prepared to give him time but it needs to get a move on .
I felt he still rushed his kicks a bit today. Could be a good hb or BP. Has all the attributes.
Needs to play rest of this year in VFL and dominate
He was pretty good last year in the guts. Just injury prone
He can slot straight into Hepps position when he retires at years end.
Should have been playing HB/Def since the start of 2023
It’d have to be a change on Heppell’s role. Heppell does a mountain of running, I don’t think Wanganeen has that level of endurance.
But if he keeps playing like he did yesterday, he’ll at least mount a strong case to be used as an AFL half back flank.
I reckon hep will still be playing in 2026 and getting a game.
I missed the game, how did he go?
If he’s developing into a good back pocket / defender, then that is great.
We desperately need a small defender to backup McGrath.
Luol may be that person, but he’s a long way away. Archie may have been a rebounding half back, but it appears he’s being developed as a wingman.
Hopefully Tex gets played in the backpocket / half back for the rest of the year, he can develop his game (and develop some confidence with his body) and either earn a game at the end of the year or earn a contract.
He’d be the type of player that we wait until the end of trade period to re-sign.
Best of luck to him.
Hope not
There’ll likely be a few injuries as we head into this 2nd half of the season. And one or two who might drop in form. Just hope this Bomber gets his chance again on a flank or pocket and grabs it with both hands…Sounds like he did OK in the VFL on Sat
All he can do now is keep building and be ready.
I bet his old man will be in his ear urging him on.
Not a bad voice to have in the background advising him.
Go Tex
