Former #40 Tex Wanganeen

I reckon his old man might also be saying “OK now Tex, there’s now way I’m letting you go to Port”

No more gifted father/son selections, Tex is another Jake Long/Tom Hird. Feels like this is old Essington nepotism.

so I take it you don’t want Bewick’s kid?

gifted he had to earn it and beat out fejo on form.

There was never any hype about Tex, Tom or Jake. They didn’t earn their spot. If Bewick can play sure get him in, but choose him on talent not for social media engagement

And that’s why we didn’t use a high pick on any of them

There’s nothing wrong with using a later pick on a speculative F/S selection. The issue is keeping them longer than their form warrants, and we don’t know what’s going to happen with Tex yet

How long do Heppell and Kelly have left, who is the half back replacement, i mean we could throw Hind or Martin back there, but need some younger depth. Lets just hope Tex’s body holds up and he can backup that performance.

I feel that Brad is all chips in on our senior players but I have doubts that those guys have the talent to take us to a flag.

Ah yes Ronald Fejo Jnr.

For those interested, he is playing with the UTS Bats in the Sydney League where he’s got in the bests once in 8 matches. And before he came to us to train he was a SANFL Reserves player.

For a good few weeks there though Blitz had decided the club would be racist if we were to deny such an incredible prospect a list spot.

I don’t think you can judge someone based on their performance in a 3rd tier league. You don’t know what he could have become in a full time environment with development coaches etc.

He had a skillset that we needed. But did an inopportune hammy. He wasn’t far away from getting a chance. I mean Wanganeen took his chance in that pre season, but hasn’t been able to grab it since then. That spot was a pretty long shot. Hopefully Tex can make the most of the rest of the season

Yep if Kim Kantilla didn’t break his arm, maybe we took him over Menzie in that mid season draft and he may have been what we needed from a small forward, with more development.

Did we actually draft fejo?

There are so many indigenous players that have come and gone in the past few years it feels.

No. He tried out for SSP spot with Clarke, Martin, Wanganeen and Fejo.

Will Tex end up following in his Dad’s footsteps and become a creative/rebounding small defender?

His dad was a forward who was switched to defence to protect his fragile body…so yeh following a similar trajectory…just at VFL level, he has shown midfield traits too.

He’d want to hurry up. If end of year list decisions were made tomorrow, he’d be very lucky to survive the cut.

I suspect he needs to show a lot over the remainder of the year to stay on the list

hes finished with us really

Showed a bit on the weekend. If he played like that for the rest of the season I think he gives us a bit of a list management headache. 20 touches, generally classy use. One or two mistakes but I feel that’s partly learning the role.

Part of his problem is unless the AFL changes the rules he needs to be promoted to the senior list. Where spots are incredibly tight.

Edit: and to clarify, probably needs to improve the defensive aspects.

We got weed and wouldn’t delist him. Surely Tex gets a chance at a full year with hopefully no injuries. With the way he is playing now, and with no preseason. What could he be with an injury free run

He would have to be near on dominating the next 8 weeks to get another contract i would have thought. Right now, he’s a easy delisting imo.
