Former #40 Will “Snello” Snelling

You don’t just dispose of a player because they get outworked by players taller than them. His strengths are tackling, pressure and winning contests.

I actually think its a case of him doing far to much to cover for his teammates. Every single week he is number 1 for distance covered. He’s probably running past half a dozen teammates just to get to a contest.

He needs to be surrounded by players that compliment him.

Wouldnt de list him but would hope he that he isnt starting 1st team next year and beyond.

I’d much rather he win the ball.

Just because he tries harder than others in the team doesn’t mean he’s good enough for AFL.

You really hate Essendon at the moment don’t you :joy:

I like Snelling, he has his faults but he is a “team first player” and does a lot of defensive work when he doesn’t have the ball. He is never going to be in the top 5 players at the club, but he will give you everything he has got and won’t throw in the towel when things get hard.

He is a bigger body version of Guelfi, and that’s not a knock on Guelfi

You need to look through my history. I have been calling for heads at this club for years.

Well yeah, I haven’t been happy with the club either but I don’t think dumping all the players is a way to fixing everything. Players like Snelling would be at every club and for very good reason.

Our problem is that we don’t have the class players that usually go with the honest triers like Snelling and make them look better.

I didn’t say delist him. I said he should be a backup for someone like Smith.

He’s also 9cm shorter and 15kg lighter according to the club website, although the club mobile app makes him just 5kg lighter, so who knows.

Fair enough.

That would be brilliant, but doesn’t always pan out that way. One thing you know is that he will tackle, harras and pressure when he doesn’t have the ball

If that is a real game effectiveness thing that can be effevtively measured by a 3rd party then that is unbelievable , as in I don’t believe it.

If it is just a random algorithm that says old mate runs a lot so he must be good, then wow wee.

But I know you aren’t suggesting that.

Also, FWIW, I’m a fan of the fella. He is a team player and just the kind of team first guy we need. People can’t honestly look at premiership player Castagna and think snelling wouldn’t be just as good if not better at the tigers…

Obviously polarises opinion, but I rate him. Really hard worker, strong tackler and obviously a professional attitude. Disposal is a little sloppy at times but, played every game. Ranked highly within the league for both tackles and tackles inside 50.

I think he can clean up his disposal issues with hard work and experience.

Yep, have to work with these players to reward effort and improve skill.

Plenty others on the list don’t give the appropriate effort always

Yep, easily best 22. Will never be a star but he pressures and tackles more than most. I don’t understand the dislike from many on here.

He is only 21.
If he can clean up the handballing,he has value.

Needs to look first then handball and not the other way around

Better to be pinged HTB than turnover in general play

Composure required

Otherwise he’s a super hard worker that gives his all
