You don’t just dispose of a player because they get outworked by players taller than them. His strengths are tackling, pressure and winning contests.
I actually think its a case of him doing far to much to cover for his teammates. Every single week he is number 1 for distance covered. He’s probably running past half a dozen teammates just to get to a contest.
He needs to be surrounded by players that compliment him.
I like Snelling, he has his faults but he is a “team first player” and does a lot of defensive work when he doesn’t have the ball. He is never going to be in the top 5 players at the club, but he will give you everything he has got and won’t throw in the towel when things get hard.
He is a bigger body version of Guelfi, and that’s not a knock on Guelfi
Well yeah, I haven’t been happy with the club either but I don’t think dumping all the players is a way to fixing everything. Players like Snelling would be at every club and for very good reason.
Our problem is that we don’t have the class players that usually go with the honest triers like Snelling and make them look better.
That would be brilliant, but doesn’t always pan out that way. One thing you know is that he will tackle, harras and pressure when he doesn’t have the ball
If that is a real game effectiveness thing that can be effevtively measured by a 3rd party then that is unbelievable , as in I don’t believe it.
If it is just a random algorithm that says old mate runs a lot so he must be good, then wow wee.
But I know you aren’t suggesting that.
Also, FWIW, I’m a fan of the fella. He is a team player and just the kind of team first guy we need. People can’t honestly look at premiership player Castagna and think snelling wouldn’t be just as good if not better at the tigers…
Obviously polarises opinion, but I rate him. Really hard worker, strong tackler and obviously a professional attitude. Disposal is a little sloppy at times but, played every game. Ranked highly within the league for both tackles and tackles inside 50.
I think he can clean up his disposal issues with hard work and experience.
