I was hoping he would sound like Guido Hatzis.
Citation needed?
Read his whole message and you get the impression he was making his own statement, not citing anyone or anything.
Another thing to consider with the decision between Carmichael and D’Ambrosio (if there was indeed a choice made), is age. D’Ambrosio is effectively a fresh draftee from the TAC whilst Carmichael is 22 and well developed.
Plenty of scope to improve for Mass.
Again, im amongst the current sh^tshow on/off field, I like the forward thinking in this draft decision over instant gratification. Another sign IMO that Dodoro/Club list building strategy is not in self-preservation mode- this is critical. Even if if we do turn over our recruitment structure at some point soon.
Good luck young fella.
Hopefully we don’t absolutely butcher your development and play you in the wrong positions.
I don’t think that’s an accurate representation of someone who has come from Country league footy, and has only had one pre season. Age is not the only feature of “developed”. Forgetting covid you could argue the MDA might have had access to more development that JC just due to being in the “system”
Anyway, welcome Massimo. He looks like a good talent. I understand the concerns that people have over his size, given that we seem to be pushed around a fair bit, but hopefully he can build his size up to something like Dion Prestia and then it’s isn’t an issue.
One of my mates has one, a black station wagon. it’s mint. Not many of them around.
Yeah I think that’s a pretty bold call.
The highest number I’ve heard put on a player is Twomey said the #1 pick that North took “might” have been top 25 in his year, and he was a tall (which always go higher, pound for pound).
Not sure D’Ambrosio would be anywhere near top 10. For reference Menegola went at 66 after almost winning the Sandover off half a WAFL season (though he was 5 or so years older TBF)
He looks like he might be a very good player from what we have seen.
What’s disappointing though is
- It’s our 3rd consecutive stab at getting a HBF to play on smalls who is quick and kicks well. Last 2 picks in the 21 ND Lord and McDonagh and this pick are all going for the same thing. You don’t need McGrath (whose not going to be a good on baller), Hind and Redman, and 3 backups/developing players to play the same role. Only makes sense if you plan to abandon McDonagh and Lord (which is probably the case). Even then, a disappointing outcome for the 2 picks in the 40s at last year’s ND.
- Our overall lack of height is already a problem. A midfield of Merrett, Parish, McGrath (for the moment), Shiel (for the moment), and down the track Caldwell and Hobbs, is too small. McGrath back, and a taller mid would have helped (implies pick Carmichael). Perkins is our only hope of a midfielder with some size, and I’m not sure he’s going to be a good mid.
Can we please stop derailing the car thread?
I had an original condition EH Special back in the day. Amberley (sky) blue with a white roof. It was an absolutely beautiful piece of machinery.
Some ■■■■■■ stole it from my driveway in 2013, about four months before it turned 50.
They go for 1-1.5 metric shittonnes of money now.
It’s now Cherry Red…
My read on it.
He’s 18yo , coming off little footy due to injury / Covid in previous years, made Co-captain of the Jets, averaging 28 disposals a week in the NAB, had outstanding games in both Young Gun matches vs Vic Rep sides and has now stood out for Richmonds 2nds as the 23rd / top up player against mature bodies. Add in kicking skills that will (reputedly) be in demand. Based on that, he’s gonna be sought after already. And if he played out a full year in the juniors with that sort of progression, who knows how valued he’d have been by November. We’ll never know for sure, but we may have just got a free hit at one of the end of seasons top rated kids.
Hopefully we didn’t pick him because he played well against our VFL side?
anyway - benvenuto Massimo. hope you can make us better.
I take your point, but 3 years of building a mature body playing senior footy against men in the country would likely mean he has had extra physical maturity compared to a 19 yo.

- was not aware we would draft him
- tough couple of years through Covid
- very grateful for the opportunity
- considers biggest strength is wanting to learn and being coachable
- was worried weekend injury might stop his drafting chances, happy that it’s not as severe as feared
- no time frame on playing seniors, just wants to meet everyone and earn some respect
- heading to the club today
- no connections to anyone at the club, but thought the recruiting team were “nice guys” when interviewed at last year’s draft
- was a Collingwood supporter- surname pronounced DAMbrosio
DELIST
His very best mate is another Western Jets captain and current member of our VFL leadership group Billy Cootee. Will probably play a few games together.
Allocated #42
Mate of mine at the local bottle-shop reckons that Massimo was considered the best player in the pool…but many clubs went ‘needs first’, which is what the MSD is for.
@Saucy and I weren’t just shouting MASSIMO every 5 minutes pre draft for the heck of it. Welcome aboard late comers.
