Ask port how we can snap up the next polec
God that's annoying
In my opinion we already have the next Jared Polec. His name is Elliot Kavanagh. Kav came to the club coming off a serious hamstring injury. He was drafted a year later. Those saying he showed nothing as junior are talking out their ■■■. He made all australian from memory as an under age player. He was being ear marked as top 5 coming into his draft year but was cut down by injury. He was a risk but a risk worth taking at 19. Like Polec at Brisbane he is maligned by fans but I think it's a confidence thing. I remember numerous people at footy bagging David Myers and saying he wouldn't make it.
How did Leroy Jetta go as a youngster?
Not as good as Dayle Garlett. But your argument was well constructed and thought provoking.
Not to do with FA but here is an article about some Vic players that may be able to be lured home. I’m on my phone so someone else may be able to post the actual article on here.
Jungle drums are beating, I wouldn't be surprised if David Mundy at least explores his options at season's end. He is a FA.
Freo have to try and fit in he and the brilliant Fyfe, who will command some significant coin.
Ha! You obviously follow me on twitter ;)
Ha - hadn't seen it, but your mail is impeccable as far as I am aware. We had a very serious crack at him a few years back, but that slot i think was essentially filled by Goddard. Not sure what our position would be.
I would be delighted if we could somehow get involved in a deal to secure some more elite young talent from GWS. O'Rourke was very highly rated but not sure our end of first round pick would get it done.

I’m a Mundy fan, but do we really want to add another 30 year old to our list. We’d have the oldest squad in the AFL, and a pretty one paced midfield too with Watson, Heppell and Mundy the key players. I’m not sure it’s a good fit. Is Dylan Shiel still a possible mover? I’d be all over that if so. Membrey would be a great fit too. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him on the move considering his chances of getting a game in the next few years will depend on injury. Someone like Lonergan or Sexton at GC might consider a move for more opportunities.
If we could find a way to get Membrey reasonably cheap I'd go for it. Plug and play Crameri replacement.
How highly did your rate him as junior? idnt he captain VC.
What was the knock on him, too one dimensional, athleticism. Why did he slide?
Very big body but only ~188cm or something, not genuine kpp height. Exceptional hands, and hits the contest hardbut not the quickest off the mark, might find it harder against AFL backmen. Endurance seemed ok but I never saw him work up the ground far, he'd need to develop that, you can't me a one-dimensional mid-sized marking deep fwd in the AFL these days - working up the ground was one of Crameri's unsung strengths. Isn't really a 'plays tall and small' type, he plays tall and that's it. Earlier in his draft year I had some concerns about his off the ball work and ability to contribut at more than an mark-kick level, but he showed a fair bit of improvement in that department by the end of the TAC season. Dunno what he's been like at the Swans, but I don't read very much at all into results in the NEAFL unless against NT or one of the other AFL reserves sides, there are some.real easybeats in that comp.
Question on him was his role at AFL level, I guess. Played the go-to man in the fwd line all his junior career (suspect he's doing the same in the Swans 2s) but that's not where he'll be at the top level. Again, remember I haven't seen him play since his drafting, but I had him pegged as a bloke who a team with a poor fwd line could plug in and get some goals out of while tall skinny long-term prospects developed, but who'd need to work on his tank, crumbing, and work up the ground to add enough flexibility to his game to secure himself a long-term career.

Thanks HM, how did you rate O'Rourke, he is great mates with big Joe.
I rated O'Rourke very highly as an underager, but I don't think he quite lived up to the billing in his u18 year, though he did have some fairly major off-season injuries as far as I can remember which seriously affected his fitness base. The likes of Martin, Garlett, Toumpas really ran rings around him at the champs.

I suggested it in the forward topic, but Alex Keath was delisted by GC at the end of 2011. That will make it 3 years without being registered as an AFL player anywhere. Rookie B list possibility. 197cm. 22yo. Wonder if he feels his cricket career is going anywhere?

I'm pretty sure he made the decision to pursue cricket over AFL, as opposed to being delisted...in fact, I'm not sure he was ever actually on an AFL list? Either way, last I heard he was still enjoying cricket and playing pretty well.

He was on Gold Coast's list for the intiial season and was delisted after that. He actually choose cricket prior to that AFL season but they still carried him for a year in the hope of getting him to change his mind.
I think this is a great call. His cricket career hasn't really kicked on - although he is still clearly very young. He choose cricket because it was his first love. Not sure the Gold Coast was all that appealing either.
A mate is a former state player and more recently a state selector and his opinion is that if Keath wants to make a career out of sport he should look to football instead of cricket.
