What about sumner, jacksch, Tomlinson or o'rourke. My point is they have an embarrassment of riches not sure if they have to trim their list again but we need to be very proactive considering our sanctions. We are not in a position to rule out any elite young talent.Shiel is only there because he's coming back from a quad strain, and do we really need yet another half back flanker (Buntine)?
Not free agents but shiel and buntine named emergencies for gws. We must be scrutinising the gws list with an eye to snaring kids who are unsettled.
Both of whom are still contracted anyway, which means any deal would come on GWS's terms.

I think we'd be silly not to try and poach some kids from their list just as every other team would be.
But we should be starting to show particular interest in their key position players.
Patton had another good game yesterday and would be the one who I would want the most who we could kind-of-realistically get our hands on.
Unfortunately someone like Myers, Hurley or Melksham would have to be involved. (I would say Bellchambers/Ryder but between Giles and Mumford I doubt they would need another ruckman.
Tomlinson is contracted

I don't see Patton as a realistic target. Regardless of knee injury, has not lost his 'number one draft pick' currency on the market yet. Would take a HUGE outlay on Essendon's behalf to get it done.
We need a key position forward.
Free agency would love jack reiwoldt.
Trading wise would need to look at an under performing kpf otherwise would be paying overs for a Patton type.
Underperformaning kpf or undeveloped. Fringe
John butcher port - kicking for goal issues. But can take contested mark.
Tom lynch/ Lewis Johnston/ Shaun mackernan - crows
Michael apeness - freo homesick lack of opportunities?
Tomlinson - Gws
Sam Reid - swans does he fit In Forward line with buddy and Tippett. They need a kpd to replace ted Richards. Hurley for Reid?
Watts - melb but can he play kpf
Jake stringer - dogs
If Jack Watts became available, could he be a 30 goal a year man as a third forward?
What would he be worth in terms of a pick?

At present, probably a rookie pick. I have not, in all my time watching the game, seen a bigger squib than him in his last game. No thanks.

God no.
I hate it when they say that he is in a form slump. To have a slump, you actually need to have consistent form first. Maybe his odd good game or two were just him playing above himself and his current "form" is actually what sort of player he is, CRAP!

He could've easily left at the end of last season but ending up signing a 3 year deal. So even if he didn't rival Justin Murphy as a squib, Melbourne would demand a 1st rounder for him or a good player in return and you'd have to pick up the existing contract, which given Melbourne's lack of stars would exceed what most clubs would deem reasonable for him.

Would they take Carlisle?
In defence we have Hooker, Hurley and lets say Pears.
We need a key forward and if Carlisle prefers defence, then maybe? Means we are 2-3 years behind in developement on a KPP however at least it is an actual forward and not a makeshift forward.
I have no idea on the currency of each though.

Tomlinson is the only one of those guys, that potentially might be gettable and that you'd actually want.
Port will persist with Butcher at least until he comes out of contract next year.
Johnston & McKernan are spuds. Lynch is only on a 1 year deal, but I think that was more his manager making out like a bandit while Walker was injured, whilst potentially earning his client an even bigger payday if he can prove he can play with Walker. He is the most flexible of their talls given his Glenelg stint saw he play inside mid and down back, so when Walker comes back he's still safe.
Apeness you're purely guessing/hoping, there is no lack of opportunities either. He kicked 5 goals in the WAFL a few weeks back and would've replaced Taberner at the weekend if he hadn't tweaked an adductor. If he keeps up the form, they'll offer him a contract extension given Pav's only got a year or 2 left.
Watts - see above
Stringer is signed up through 2016 and the Dogs wouldn't entertain losing him unless he walked out anyway.
Reid - if he can't fit into the forward line they'll try to turn him into a key defender before they consider letting him go. He's also still got 3 years to run on that insane 6 year deal they signed him to.
Tomlinson has a year to run, but after playing as 2nd tall last year they're currently looking for another role for him with Patton fit. He's played as a mid in their reserves and now back in the seniors, if he settles in their side then there is no chance, if he doesn't, well he could be gettable as they already have Jaksch & McCarthy. He was still a 1st round pick though, so he's not going to come at buy 1 get 1 free price like Edwards & Aylett.
Yeah there really isn't many young talls worth targeting. We should be in Tomlinson's ear already telling him we think he could form a long term partnership with Daniher.
I guess if Tomlinson finds a place in their side he is happy with we could try Cam McCarthy but he was supposedly pretty raw as forwards go and is still a stick that will take a few years so that wouldn't really help us much (other than the fact he isn't a KPD).
Zero chance for McCarthy, he signed a 2 year extension a few weeks back along with all their recent draftees not named Boyd...oh and Enki your last little comment, GWS has the opposite problem to us, plenty of keys forwards, few key backs...so he is currently learning his trade as a KPD in their reserves.
What about Conlon?
Was considered a high pick before his injury woes and subsequently missed out on 2 drafts in a row I believe (or was it just last year’s?) and we could get him cheaply as most teams would be scared off due to his injury history.
HM or someone of the like could probably tell you more about him.

Conlon had knee surgery in March, after knee, shoulder, and hip surgery last year. Not sure if it was a full reco, but it was pretty serious as far as I can tell. Dunno whether he's going to get on the park at al this year.
Very talented, but his body is a massive worry. And frankly I'd prefer a more physical, bullocking forward to complement Daniher in an ideal world anyway. Not that this'd stop me drafting him if his medical report was reasonable though.
