And you prefer NO’B over Gwilt ? ??? MMMMMM not at the last 2 games i went to…
I’d rather give him another go on the basis that he is a lot younger and plays a different role. Very rare that Hird drops a young player after one game so I expect Steinberg to get at least one more crack this week over Gwilt potentially as Melbourne only have 2 decent key forwards.
we always knew a rebuild would come sooner or later, i'm glad we've realised that now rather than in a couple of years time.
Really? Wasn’t expecting a rebuild so soon. Excluding Fletch we’re only middle-of-the competition for oldness.
Carlton and North need rebuilds, we need to get our ■■■■ sorted.
we’re no different to them now. in fact we look worse off. we invested in getting old blokes to the club to try and have a crack at a flag within the next two years which appears painfully out of reach. there is no need for the likes of cooney, chapman, gwilt, winderlich, fletch and co to stay on for another year given they won’t get a shot at the premiership. we basically wasted a spot on the list by talking winderlich out of retirement who has so far added one game to his tally from the end of last year (not his fault).
if we persisted for another year with the same old crew, albeit a year older, and failed miserably again, who knows who we may have missed from the upcoming draft as a result of keeping plodders.
Relax Arthur. Fact of the matter is that there’ll be a fair turn-over of the list anyway because of retirements. Add in a few delisted and you’ll get the chaince to exploit the draft. At the same time - and this runs counter to some of the hysterical comment lately - we don’t want to throw away the baby with the bath water. It’s a shallow draft this year and there’s not much value in clearing the decks expecting to pick up a bunch of gems in the draft. If we can get 3 picks in the top 30 I’ll be happy. Thereafter it’s a lottery. Lets save some for next years draft.
Secondly, despite all the commentary, particularly from the likes of David King, the cupboard isn’t altogether bare. Zach Merrett is a star, and will be for years to come. There’s every reason to be confident that Langford and Laverde will develop into long term players for us. Outside of them I think Dalgleish will be a good senior player given a decent go, and we need his pace. Fantasia is another who may become a long term player; and Browne deserves another go. And possibly McKenna could be the best of them.
We certainly need to address some deficiencies, but going bull at a gate won’t help. Got to be strategic and smart.
We are really going to miss bags. This season just keeps on giving.
With hooker going forward we are already much weaker in defence now losing another main stay in bags will really hurt.
As much I enjoyed the Hooker experiment and think it can really work going forward. We need him down back. BUT who do we put forward?
Pears may be our last hope. That in itself could work well also as I reckon he is still struggling fitness wise. He will stay at home which could give us a target that we have been missing. At very least I think Pears will provide a contest you would think.
You can be scathing of goddards onfield performances, but off field has been a god send for us. dodga you're so out of touch its not even funny.
How is he different to Ryder. Go
Ask Scott Watters. BJ, like Cooney this year was pushed out of the club to make space in their salary cap.
I thought he had a 3 year contract offer. If I’m wrong I apologise. I consider any player who leaves his club disloyal though. Its not just him. Its guys like Gibson, Greg Williams, Judd. I just don’t rate them as highly as leaders. He’s been good since he got here considering the crap he walked into. I probably should soften my stance on people moving clubs for money. Its just the way it is nowdays.
Seriously Dodga, another of your pearls.
Players have been changing clubs for money forever. Just look at the history of the game, remember Nth Melblurne who poached Barry Davis, Doug Wade and John Rantell to win their first flag and it went on well before that.
And our newly appointed saint, Phil Walsh only moved clubs for the money.

he also moved so he could be senior coach
but lets just ignore that
We are discussing players being disloyal, not Coaches. Phil Walsh played a season at Collingwood, was best first year player for the competition and took a big bag of dollars to go to Richmond for two years then took another wad to move to Brisbane.
I was responding to Dodga attack on BJ, who should remember that many players have moved clubs since the VFL began a long time ago.
And Barnz, yep it is poor form to criticize a dead bloke, but I reckon Phil Walsh would not have wanted this massive public display about his death, and while it was a tragic event, the response has been over the top.
Had to get an abscess removed from my ■■■ on friday and share a hospital room with a man claiming that he met jesus once.
I thought I couldn't get any flatter. I was wrong.

I'm not sure who you've got in your tall spots in that scenario
Daniher/Hooker fwd, SMack ruck, and Stein/Langford/Hurley back?
For mine Gwilt hasn’t done much wrong. He’s no world beater but 3rd tall back is about the least of our worries. Maybe not if we’re at full strength but if FLetch is out and they’re putting either Hooker or Hurley forward he’s a must, just on experience & size grounds.
You just can’t run two of Stein/Langford on key talls. They’ll get destroyed.
