I’ve managed to score tech preview access to Halo Infinite multiplayer this weekend.

It’s a lot of fun.

I’ve watched some streamers play the Halo infinite multiplayer too, @benfti. Looks pretty cool and I can’t wait to see what the campaign looks like.

Shame I only have a PS5 though.

Games i’m looking forward to playing in the future: Kena: Bridge of Spirits, Battlefield 2042, God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Forbidden West!

Finished Kena Brigde of Sprits

Story didn’t grab me at all but a great game none the less

You can play on PC too, I played on both over the weekend

I’m very much a console gamer and don’t have the necessary equipment to game effectively right now on PC, but maybe down the track this could change.

Just seen that Stubbs the Zombie (remastered) is being released in a couple of weeks for PS4.

Can’t wait for that one. Loved that game!

Purchased Hot Wheels Unleashed

Really good game lots of fun

Does anyone remember the old micro machines top down racer from the 90s. Haha, haven’t thought about that in decades but the hot wheels mention made me think of it.

Wowee this has brought back some memories

Finally started RDR2. It’s been sitting on my PS4 HD taking up 120gig for a good year now (a purchase made due to a western movie binge and a reasonable psn sale price of $40).

Going from sinking 200hrs into Remnant: From The Ashes, (a game which has the most satisfying, fun gunplay of any TPS I’ve ever played) to a rockstar game (a studio notorious for having horrible gunplay and movement) gives you whiplash.

I can see there’s been a tonne of effort and polish put into this game, (with some great accessibility options too, notably camera options) but the subpar gameplay really is unacceptable.

Character movement is clunky, loose, inorganic and stodgy. The gunplay is imprecise, low impact, clunky and unsatisfying.

It’s Rockstar’s patented attempt at ‘realism’ and ‘immersion’ which they probably use to weakly justify this, and while I don’t expect it to handle with the precision and tightness of an arcadey japanese character action game, I shouldn’t be actively fighting the controls. The current iteration heavily takes its lead from GTAIV. That game controlled poorly in 2008, it’s even worse now.

Rockstar are without peer when it comes to crafting living, breathing open worlds. Head and shoulders above everyone else. But they’re decidedly mediocre when it comes to gameplay.

I’m going to play around one more time with some of the control options to try and see if this mess can be salvaged somewhat, because outside the gameplay there’s a lot to appreciate here. But if I can’t tweak it to reach a satisfactory standard I’m out.

I’m at a stage in my gaming life that the unwritten law “Gameplay Is King” has never been more important, and sadly Rockstar’s disregard of that law means they don’t make games that appeal to me anymore

I’ve been playing Kena and the Bridge of Spirits. Beautiful graphics and setting.

Story isnt bad too.

On my PS5 still yet to play:
Days Gone
Monster Hunter

I started playing Remnant too. I was surprised with how much I liked it, it’s a very good game.

You’ve got the same issues with RDR2 as I do. I know it’s technically a good game but it just feels a bit loose.

I liked red dead to start, then I quickly found that it doesn’t respect your time. Just goes for too long.

I’m sure you can speed your way through it if you know what your doing. I just found it waaaay to slow going.

Entertaining to begin with. And I love the Wild West.

I’d love them to do a bush ranger expansion set in Australia.

The gameplay I thought was fine in rdr2. It’s just very open world.

I love Red Dead 2 my favourite game of all time

Starts off slow but once you reach the first camp site you can do what ever you want explore, doing missions, hunting etc

I’m actually shocked how much I ended up liking Remnant.

I got it free with psplus a while ago, saw a review that pegged it as “Dark Souls with guns” so tried it. It’s tremendous.

The story, dialogue are barebones and trash to be honest.

They focused all their resources into the gunplay, enemy design, weapons and balancing and it shows.

Pretty much every weapon is viable on all difficulty settings. I’ve finished on apocalypse mode and done a hardcore playthrough. Used a heap of different weapons and mods.

I’ve used tank builds, crit builds, elemental builds, bleed builds. All fun and viable

It’s so good I bought both DLC. Gold standard for third person shooting for me. The sound, recoil, hit reactions/animations, weapon design and reload animations etc it’s fcking great.

I’m talking specifically about character movement and how he controls, plus the shooting mechanics and handling.

It’s substandard. Rockstar constantly gets away with it because their open worlds are top tier and best in the industry.

They have obscene resources at their disposal but never fix the gameplay.
