Wow. I’ve passed it on normal but that’s it. When the dlc goes on sale I reckon I’ll get it. Only heard good things.
I havent played red dead but have played heaps of GTA, especially GTA5 and ive never had a problem with the gameplay. What would you change about it? Have you tried GTA5 in first person?
Disclaimer:
-I played gta5 on ps3 near launch and haven’t touched it in years. So this is from memory, and they may have alleviated some of the issues in the subsequent 87 rereleases and patches since then.
-I have not played it in first person, and I don’t think that was an option when I played. Did notice RDR2 has it though.
Tighten up character movement/shooting and make it more responsive. There’s no reason for a man to feel like a two legged clunky tank. Some games go too far the other way and control too floaty like the character is made of crepe paper, rockstar games typically control like you’re moving underwater. Shooting is sluggish and imprecise.
Rockstar games basically play like an rpg game where your character is overburdened with ultra heavy armour and exceeding the weight limit. Except you’re a guy in jeans and a shirt.
Would have liked a walk button so many times I enter a town I bump into people by accident which starts a fight or alerts the sherif
Yeah Maybe, I think your nit picking a little bit.
Maybe but with RDR2 whilst there is some motor skill required it’s more about enjoying the story line and problem solving. There’s a lot to like about spending time in the game, it’s just a shame everything takes so long.
I gave up on it, had a silly arvo where I went around trashing my reputation. I think if I was to pick it up again I’d actually start the beast again and just enjoy it little by little.
Has anyone else’s Phat PS4 shat itself? Mine beeps and the light goes on for 0.5 seconds and then it ■■■■■ itself.
I think it’s a PSU according to Google, just ordered an $80 replacement so fkn hope so.
My old PS4 I keep in my bedroom keeps losing the connection with the controllers. Very annoying.
5g interfering?
A hard reset fixes the problem. The one in the lounge doesn’t have the problem though.

I had this issue and found it was because I had a USB stick plugged in. Apparently they can transmit a signal which interferes.
There’s just no way to tweak the controls enough to make RDR2 satisfying. First person view can be semi workable but I have no interest in that.
Third person can’t be salvaged. It’s so fundamentally broken and nothing epitomises that more than the combat fov. The game zooms out when you aim your weapon. It… zooms… OUT. Just think about how broken that is. The exploration/traversal/etc camera fov is tighter and more focused than the combat camera view to aim and shoot. It defies belief, but this is what happens when your crappy shooting mechanics are built upon auto lock on.
The only games I sink time into these days have great combat, so goodbye Rockstar. A shame to waste that great detailed world.
Going to give Days Gone a crack.
You’ll like Days Gone
Has anyone managed to play the Battlefield 2042 Beta? Would be interesting to hear people’s thoughts!
I largely agree. The thing that ended up killing RDR2 for me was the incredibly tightly scripted story-based missions that insisted on holding your hand all the way through (with extremely generous respawn points if you messed up, like right before you died) and having such tight rails on them that there was only really one narrow way to complete them, and if you deviated from that one bit or tried to get creative you either instant failed or the game kept giving you repetitive prompts what to do, breaking any semblance of realism.
I recall one mission where you needed to shadow some guy through the Governor’s
mansion, and I was literally following the guy but trying to be subtle about it by hanging further back and hiding behind objects - and the game just kept showering me with urgent ‘FOLLOW THIS GUY’ arrows and prompts before instant failing me, even though I could still see where the guy was going.
The open world was fantastic and all the spontaneous action was great - but the missions were so incredibly easy, tedious and dull, i gave up around Saint Dennise.
The Last of Us series is an example of a way to have scripted story-based gameplay that still allows the player a satisfying amount of agency and creativity in how to complete the mission.
It’s interesting, one of my main dislikes in games is a clunky control system, but weirdly enough I didn’t think RDR2 was overly bad. Definitely a bit clunky for movement etc but by no means in the bottom bracket overall.
Same with GTA, never really bothered me too much.
My main issue with RDR2 is similar to above with very very limited freedom within missions. I’m also not a fan of stupid crafting menus etc and clunky item retrieval systems - as in, walk into house, walk to draw, open draw, pick up item from draw, open next draw, empty, open next draw, pick up item…I know some people crave realism in games, but fk me I hate that ■■■■. Just click a button to loot house.
A game that really highlights just how clunky other games can be is AC origins…just so bloody smooth and easy. Never really played many of the AC games, but as soon as I played that it made it extra hard to cope with anything clunky.
Oh 100%. The missions are egregiously on rails. Considering how relatively free of shackles the open world is, the story missions are the polar opposite.
I recall a mission from chapter 1 where you rob a train with Lenny (I think). I stopped for a few seconds to loot a couple of corpses. Lenny promptly ran ahead and que a cutscene of him getting shot, mission failed. What. Mission failed because I dared to take a few seconds longer than the developers wanted. Terrible stuff.
Enjoying Days Gone significantly more. The gameplay loop is far more satisfying.
Started FarCry 6 tonight, loving it so far
Anyone playing New World? I got it yesterday and wasnt expecting much but I am actually really enjoying it.
I played the Beta. Haven’t touched it since. Was fun but could tell it would just take up too much of my time (which I no longer have to spare). Have mates who play but are already talking about taking a break from it because it’s so repetitive.
Will probably pick up Metroid Dread this weekend. anyone played it yet?
