Game went as expected and we fought back to keep the score semi respectable before the Cats pulled away late.
Vigo the big story for us, looked like he belongs.

We’ve had worse performances against Geelong with much more experienced teams.
Vigo and Sharp there obvious standouts.
First quarter and a half was a disaster, but a good second half considering.

The Good
Sharp is going to be a beauty, if all of them played like him we would be so much better
Vigo, really put Bryan to the sword tonight. To me, looked a No. 1 ruckman, the new Coach has some thinking to do.
Merritt, so sad he wants out, he is our only descent senior players and still the best leader in the Club.
ADW, I really wish all our players played like him.
Solomon has tried everything to turn things around and is setting a good platform for the new Coach.
The Bad
Kako, HEA has surpassed him, he really needs to step up.
McGrath, should be the easiest decision for the new Coach to replace him as Captain. Should be trade bait.
Langford, should also be trade bait.
Setterfield, love his endeavour, but that’s it. Should be an easy delist.
Caldwell. Not sure what’s going on here, but, gee he has been ordinary this year.
The Ugly
Can we bring in a Coach that can teach us how to kick?
Decision making is terrible we miss many opportunities to easily move the ball forward by poor disposal or poor choices.
The Umpiring, didn’t favour either team but was so inconsistent.
Boundary umpires, we now have 4 and they have never been worse.

Got smashed but I reckon that’s the first time all year I’ve finished a game with an ember of hope for the future.
Clearly dropped our bundle in Q2 but I thought the pressure & hunt was really strong for 3 quarters, led by our captain Dyson Sharp. I thought our ex captain Zach also helped Dyson lead the way and was excellent.
It’s exciting to think we’ll add Robey, Martin, Duursma + about 6 draft picks next year. I’m sure they’re all relishing to play under Dyson’s stewardship.
I’m disappointed but leave tonight optimistic.
Second week in a row that there was spirit from the start. At least Solomon has them playing with a positive mind frame…. and with the intent of not putting pick #1 at risk with ADW back so McGrath could go forward and play defensively on Tom Stewart and let Farrow & Sharp continue their education on Dempsey & Bailer Smith respectively. Both got well beaten early, as you would expect, but both fought back fantastically well as the game wore on - they are both made of the right stuff.
We didn’t take our chances early and our excellent Q1 pressure dropped off in Q2. Further we started play slow long kick football to their spare and could not get the ball forward. Whether a switch go flicked or a message went we changed our playing style late in Q2 ; about the same time that McGrath went back to defence (which seemed to steady us). We suddenly started to look for players 15m-20m on angles and ahead, in space before going longer, deeper into our F50 which created chances.. And two goals, late in red time for us for a change, were the result.
Q3 was Vigo time - he played well in the first half and absolutely went up a notch with his around the ground play and excellent kicking . He won the ruck duel easily against De Koning but, as expected, struggled more with Blicavs bulk. it was a great game - to go with Sharp’s great game and Merrett who was outstanding with his work rate and defensive pressure.
We started Q4 well but really ran out of steam epitomised by Huss in the forward pocked after some good play from Perkins who I thought had a decent game. We gave up the last 4 goals, a number of poor turnovers when we had control of the ball. Some of that is fatigue.
Hard to see a lot on the TV but i thought the Cats were very smart in the centre ball ups and around the game - rather than take the ball, the Cat player would simply tap it to the advantage instead. We took the ball and of course got tackled. I thought this assisted their centre clearance dominance. It was very smart play in the conditions. I hope Solomon and the coaches show this to the players this week as part of their education.
I enjoyed Caddy’s game much more as he started leading to the ball kicker rather than always running back towards goal. ADW’s endeavour was great and I loved the high tackle on close late - made him earn it which is not we are known for in recent years.
And now, a copaching announcement awaits…. .
Halfway through the 2nd I thought we would get done by 20+ goals and wouldn’t score a goal. Much better 2nd half but still to have a big score kicked on us in the wet shows how bad we are defensively.
Sat in the rain all day, and now I’m the lone Bomber in this pizza restaurant and I’m sat right next to the Geelong cheer squad. That Catman fella just walked in. Still a V-Line train and a train to Essendon from home.
