As I paraphrased him at the time: âthe Bears were the hardest hit by previous expansions and lost so many players that⌠they won the premiershipâ.
He can go cannon himself.
Thanks AFL. Only took you 5 farking yearsâŚ
Suprised they expanded past 10 teams in the first place the standard is atrocious. That being said moving the season to stand alone is the smartest thing they have done.
Good news.
The last three paragraphs are blatant editorialising:
Hawthornâs VFLW team has recorded three wins this year, all against standalone clubs Williamstown and Darebin, but won the flag back in 2018.
There is nothing preventing Hawthorn VFLW players from nominating for the 2021 NAB AFLW Draft and being signed by another club to play at the top level.
Kennettâs response was in direct contrast to that of Essendon, Port Adelaide and Sydney, who welcomed the decision.
So the AFL wants to Expand but doesnât want the AFLW to expand, sexist much
From one of the AFL-written articles today:
Details surrounding the upcoming AFLW Sign and Trade period â including whether existing clubs will be limited to one-year contracts this year to allow for free player movement come expansion â are expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.
Is this a caption photo WTF is happening here
Keep squawking Jeff. You wonât get a team next, and it will be Bombers and Port. You and Sydney can come in the year after.
Its a bloody disgrace that a toerag club like North Melbourne, that canât gather enough support for the mens team, were given an AFLW team before the likes of Essendon and wHorethorn.
Fairly sure one of the reasons Norf got an AFLW side before we did is that first time round the brains trust at Essendon didnât apply.
Second reason is that the AFL were hoping to suck extra supporters into the minnow clubs mens side by giving them womenâs teams first. Hence why GWS got one, too.
Compare the pairs:
AFL: zero wins @ 52.7%
AFLW: 6 wins @ 142.5%
VFL: zero wins @ 29.9%
VFLW: 3 wins @ 61.9%
(but not disputing the theory that at least some in the AFL saw the AFLW as a way to subsidise some teams)
Hooray, about time too.
"Broadly, itâs list build strategy, a whole-club look at how the program will be integrated into the club, the facilities are incredibly important, business model, corporate support, consumer support, the business case theyâre going to build out around it,â olâ Gil said.
Yeah, I can see why we were rejectedâŚ
This is my opinion of why Essendon were not granted a license initially, maybe right or wrong. When the AFL started the VFLW it was post the Essendon saga years. A number of clubs lobbied the AFL saying that the Dons should not get a license because of the saga. I always viewed it as additional punishmen. Essendon have always been in the best position to have a W club as they have the resources and facilities to properly support it. Anyway this has continued on until now when every club is getting a license,
Would there even have been an increase is memberships due to this? Highly unlikely
Potentially they were hoping to embed loyalty to other clubs via the womens team.
