Well, he couldn’t have flown RNZAF. Their pilot, Alan, has had a nasty dose of sheep-flu recently.

Imagine telling them that the Japanese aircraft carriers can only deploy with US Marines STOVL stealth jets and not Japanese aircraft.

Four ASEAN members - Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia- have decided on a formal relationship with the BRICS economic group, in becoming partner members .
At the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Modi and Xi getting chummy, after around 4 years of cold shouldering each other.
While BRICS has a long way to go in developing as a Global South economic power , the US dismissal of it is not shared, in particular the recognition given to China in contributing to the economies in the Indo Pacific region.

What the UNSG said about Ukraine on UN Day would have registered with- and been fully understood by - Putin and every other UN member. It condemns Russia.

  • references to a just peace in line with the UN Charter, international law and UNGA resolutions
( Seven UNGA resolutions, all condemning Russia’s invasion and calling for adherence to Ukraine territorial integrity)-

They all understand the UNSG position. They all know his position on reform of the UNSC
They all know how the UN institutional powers and its limits, including that the UNSG has no power to determine the rotating Chairs of UN bodies - that is in the hands of the 193 UN Member States, within the limits of the powers exercised by the permanent UNSC members with veto powers ( recently exercised heavily by the USA, going against trend, where Russia has been the usual suspect in preventing action).

To paraphrase:

When it comes to conflict situations, the UN is a toothless little pussycat

Yeah , when the Big Boys in the UN system flagrantly breach the rule of law of the UN, including the treaties they selectively cite when another UN member breaks them, when they use their UNSC veto powers to block any UN action. When they ignore ICJ judicial opinions and recommendations.

When they cite ICC rulings ( the ICC is not part of the UN system) calling on other countries to enforce them, when they refuse to become members of the ICC themselves and would accuse the ICC of bias in the event of any ICC rulings of its own citizens, when they claim immunity for their own head of government.

And worse, when the middle powers support what they do, or turn a blind eye.
When the middle powers sit on their hands because it might upset their relationships with their great and powerful neighbours.

When the concerns of reputable NGOs , including the factual evidence and direct experience of Doctors Without Borders and the international journalists association, get a look over there by UN member Governments , or trash the reputations of the NGOs and their personnel,

I imagine the politics behind Australia’s decision for Australia’s Ambassador to the UN to take the lead on behalf of a number of other UN like minded measures to present documented evidence of China’s human rights transgressions in the treatment of its minorities.
The backlash from China in putting it on the record its selective history of Australia’s treatment of its indigenous population was to be expected.

ATM about the only achievements of the UN institutions are to deliver humanitarian aid ( when allowed and within financial constraints) and document evidence of war crimes in regional conflicts , occasionally successfully mediate ( as in the truce in the Yemen Civil War and the shipping of Ukraine agricultural goods from Black Sea ports). Some of this has been at the cost of lives of UN employees.

If you pronounce D.J.R like you would Kim Jong Un he’d be a more powerful mod.

Not sure boomerang missiles would work though.
