Israel claimed that some UNRWA were involved in the 7 October Hamas attack.
The UN set in train an independent investigation on the basis of names supplied by Israel.
In the interim Australia and a number of other countries suspended future contributions to UNRWA. Australia and other countries ( with the exception of USA) reinstated their contributions following the independent report and the suspension of some UNRWA ( IIRC around 5 ) employees, for which there was some evidence of Hamas affiliation.
Ouch!
That must have been embarrassing for The UN.
It has a vetting system for all UNRWA employees. From memory none of the those suspended were established as Hamas, rather a connection to Hamas.
The Independent report was made public, plus the UN action taken in response. There were some concerns expressed that the UN response amounted to a scapegoating of some, as Israel had not provided any evidence of UNRWA employees involved in the 7 October attacks.
Canadian deputy foreign minister has alledged that the Indian Home Minister authorised an assassination on Canadian soil.
The sad thing is that over here it is almost being taken as a “ploy” by Trudeau to deflect from his polling #'s. So whilst the actual Indian govt involvement may be factual- the amount of incredulity over here in regard to the story is alarming. Worrisome. Modi seems to be getting a bit of a free pass from a fair chunk of Canadians due to the current Liberal govt being a tad on the nose.
Oh, and on Canadian Politics…
- BC has just had its provincial election, ( “state” for those in OZ). The NDP looks to have squeaked out a one seat majority over the BC Conservatives, with the mail in and absentee votes swinging right back for them at the death. Bit of a nasty campaign, with the NDP, ( think more old school ALP when they were representing the left to centre left) taking a pretty hard line on the newly formed BC Conservatives, ( a new party rising from the ashes of the “old” BC Liberals, who were centre to centre right. The Conservatives are definitely further to the right indeed). Still 2 seats too close to call, but the Governor General has formally asked the NDP to form a Govt. This will be their 3rd term.
-The Saskatchewan party has just won a 5th term, defeating a resurgent NDP in the battle of the Prairies. The NDP were shot 2 years ago, and have roared back to at least keep the Saskatchewan party honest.
- Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, ( federal- and a centralist party. Very much unlike our LNP, who are more like the Canadian Conservative party at a federal level) are in a spot of bother. They are a minority Govt, ruling with the guarantee of the Federal NDP to pass bills and ensure supply.
- The Bloc Quebecois have also been assisting- but they put a challange to the Libs over the previous week to pass 2 bills of legislation by Yesterday. That did not happen, so they are potentially siding with the Conservatives in a no confidence motion. Adding to this, over 20 Lib mp’s signed a no confidence motion with Justin’s leadership and formally asked him to step aside. He declined. Fun days ahead!!!
Not just some, one guy was a principle at one their schools and was a head of an Hamas wing, they recently finally admitted it (photos are available that show it). Photos of another one carrying the body of a dead Israeli back to Gaza, the body has not been returned, they removed him from UN work. UN like to cover these things up until someone finally gets them to admit things. UN fans will never admit to it, try and hedge that things “are never proven” even when they are. Then quote the UN.
For the facts and the substantiated , verified evidence. read the independent report.
Also read the UN Noon briefing of 29 October, where these matters were discussed with journalists.

Meanwhile in other news…
“World War III has already begun. You already have battles on the ground being co-ordinated in multiple countries,” a leading international banker has warned.
JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon has told the Institute of International Finance that the current conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East already represent a global conflict.
“I talk about the risk to us if those things go south,” Dimon said.
“We run scenarios that would shock you. I don’t even want to mention them.”
He said China, Russia, North Korea and Iran represented an “axis of evil” aimed at destroying the cooperative global community established following World War II.
“They’re talking about doing it now,” Dimon warned the gathering of global financial leaders. “They’re not talking about waiting 20 years. And so the risk of this is extraordinary if you read history.”
It’s a threat exceeding that of a global economic “soft landing” and climate change, he added.
The $A55-million-a-year executive is by no means the only voice adding a sense of urgency over the rapid unravelling of geopolitics.
The US Army’s outgoing commander of forces in the Pacific region told a defence conference in Washington DC earlier this month that the growing collaboration between global dictators and authoritarians had produced a “very dangerous combination”.
“There’s a limited regional war going on in Europe,” General Charles Flynn said.
“There’s a limited regional war going on in the Middle East. We can ill afford another limited regional war in Asia. Why? Because it will be a global problem for all of us.”
Julie Bishop, the UN Special Envoy for Myanmar has briefed UNGA on the grim situation there in the Civil War. She is going to do the rounds with neighbouring countries to encourage them to put pressure on the Government. She is also going back to Myanmar.
( I suppose in this instance the local UN offices will do the meets and greets with her and save our Embassies from doing it )
ASEAN members have excluded Myanmar from attending meetings at political level .
A match made in hell.
Useless politician with useless organisation.
Horrendous news coming out of Spain this morning (local time). Flash flooding just outside of Valencia, Spain.
Julie Bishop was appointed as Special Envoy by the UNSG, to succeed Heyzer from Singapore.
Another Australian, Ben Saul was appointed by Member States of the UN Human Rights Council. He was appointed as Special Rapporteur on human rights, fundamental freedoms and counter terrorism. He can be followed on twitter, where he occasionally posts on ME conflicts.
UNRWA was created in 1949 by Member States of UNGA, as a subsidiary organ of the UN. It has around 30k employees, spread across Gaza, West Bank, Syria, Jordan, Israel and Egypt.
UNIFIL was established by the UNSC in 1978, with its role limited to humanitarian assistance ( for example mine clearance ) and protection to the people of Lebanon . UNIFIL operations are carried out by troops on roster from UN Member States.
UNIFIL can be followed on twitter
Thanks? I guess
There is another Australian, Chris Sidoti, an international human rights lawyer, a member of the Independent Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and Israel.
The Commission was established by the UN Human Rights Council , with a view to establishing the facts in relation to international law.
It has done a series of reports, most recently 30 October ( available on the UN Web Air system if Blitzers wish to dig into the factual situation ).
Bunch of pigs.
