Meanwhile, UN Member States take up where the UNSC fails to act because the US prevents it from acting when the US elects to exercise its veto power.
At UNGA on 12 June, UN members voted in favour of a Gaza ceasefire.
A Spanish resolution for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza was adopted by 149 votes in favour, 12 votes against (Argentina, Fiji, Hungary, Israel, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, PNG, Paraguay, Tonga, Tuvalu and USA.
There were 19 abstentions ( Cameroon, Czechia, DPRK, Dominica, Ethiopia, Georgia, India, Kiribati, Malawi, Marshall Islands, North Macedonia, Panama, Romania, South Sudan, Timor Leste, Togo).
The resolution included key elements, including return of the hostages held by Hamas and other armed groups; respect for international law ( including humanitarian and human rights law, the ICJ advisory opinion, protection of civilians in war); starvation as a weapon; ending blockades; humanitarian access; protection of aid workers; medical neutrality; detention practices.
As in UNGA resolutions on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, this UNGA resolution provides cover for UN Members to impose sanctions on countries and non State actors involved in Gaza acting inconsistently with the resolution.
If they were building a nuclear bomb to kill millions of people in another country (that would end in Australia’s destruction) I would hope the other country killed them asap and would be ever so grateful that they’ve managed to do so in the most targeted way possible
Like the scientists in America?
Russia?
India?
Pakistan?
China?
Israel?
France?
UK?
There is a real question as to this being an imminent threat of a bomb being produced, or was it an opportunistic moment where Iran was weak and the IAEA announcement gave political cover for escalation.
And it’s started.
You lot leading us down the path of having the thread shut yet again.
Just stop posting this emotional stuff and start just leaving the facts of what is happening to be posted.
Worlds ■■■■■■
All, please chill with the emotion. Everyone gets it. This is ■■■■. There’s a huge amount of history here, but nobody is going to change their minds about it today.
The choice is to have a space to share what is happening, or not talk about it at all. Debating the mess outside these events will just lead to the mods shutting all this down.
Please all take a breath and hit the trash button on the next post.
Publicly
Saudi Arabia has issued a condemnation of Israel’s attack on Iran. The Saudi Foreign Ministry statement said that it was “an attack on Iran’s sovereignty and security, which constitutes a blatant violation of international law and international conventions.”
Saudi Arabia is extraordinarily vulnerable to Iranian strikes on their oil facilities. If that happened, it would cause a massive shock to the world oil market.
From a Military perspective this strike has been targeted with precision.
I much prefer generals to attack Generals rather than the innocent civilians.
Was a preemptive strike justified though?
The last paragraph from SA is…telling.
From what I’ve read in the Hebrew Israeli media, the factors were:
a. The acceleration in recent days of Iran’s race towards nuclear weapons
b. The completion of the impenetrable underground uranium enrichment site in Nataz and the imminent transfer of advanced centrifuges to that site.
c. The legitimacy provided by the IAEA report.
On a personal note, like on 7/10, I am stuck overseas and can’t get back to my family in Israel, and my brother and I may be forced to stay in London and try to find tickets to day 3 at Lord’s.
So if anyone has contacts (hint @Aceman) who can get a ticket or 2 to a sold out day, it would be much appreciated.
When Israel does something, they do not fark about.
They are like the practical joker that you’re best not to retaliate with as they will get you back even better, each and every single time.
Per Israel, over 200 IAF jets involved to strike around 330 targets.
Currently 100 Iranian drones on the way to Israel. (About 20% of what Russia currently launches at Ukraine in a regular night)
Israel hit Iran’s ballistic missile stores, which will limit the amount of retaliation that Iran can muster. They fly much faster, so would be launched to coincide with when the drones arrive.
Video online of them over Iraqi airspace.
Hopefully Iran will have less drones for Russia - now that’d be a silver lining
Apparently takes up to 7 hours for drones to make the trip from Iran to Israel.
Russia is now building Shahed drones in mass quantities, I’ve seen 5k per month being quoted.
Iran did the tech transfer and now is largely a bystander.
