Iran fires missiles into northern Israel
Iran has fired missiles into northern Israel on Sunday evening, local time, in what it says is retaliation for Israel’s attacks on southern Lebanon.
It’s the first attack on Israel by Iran since the ceasefire was announced in early April.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it had targeted Israel’s Ramat David Air Base with ballistic missiles as part of the attack, which was “solely intended as a warning” that the US and Israel should cease any further “acts of aggression” against Iran or its proxies across the Middle Least.
“Should these acts of aggression continue, future responses will be broader in scope and will encompass all American and Israeli targets throughout the region,” the statement said.
An unnamed senior US official told the Associated Press Mr Trump called Mr Netanyahu to urge him not to retaliate immediately.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mr Trump believed he had convinced Mr Netanyahu to wait.
