Some real positives tonight.
The kids are really starting to get tired, come seasons’ end they will be running on fumes.
Ridley is so important.
Gresham in the middle may have saved his career.
Blakiston keeps improving, like a green racehorse, but plenty to work with.
Thought Smartt showed a bit - what happens to players kicking when they come into this side?
Merrett & Duursma look sore.
Thought Prior was ok tonight & Redman probably had his best game for the season.
Kako could do with a week off, maybe Clarke too.
Guelfi, Gresham, Shiel & Perkins all had a real opportunity tonight, only Gresham took it.
Thought Vigo was hardly done by at a number of centre bounces; but this was never the game to play him in.
Like Redman, McGrath probably had his best game of the season.
Jury out on Lual. Chases well, but doesn’t right to the right places when we have the ball.
My anger is at the failure to perform the basics. And the failure of senior players to perform the basics.
The goal kicking was abysmal. The kicking into the forward line (by everyone) was abysmal.
I felt at times they did really well to put pressure on the opposition but would occasionally fall away.
Gresham = Seeya
Perkins = Seeya
Redman = ….hmmmmm…I don’t want to but…. Not good enough
The club needs to promote standards. Skills need to be prioritised. Tackling needs to be prioritised….let’s face it, everything needs to be prioritised.
Sack the forward coach. Inept.
I don’t know. The club just seems to find another unique way to fail. I don’t think we were doing any better at “ full strength “.
I would personally sack/offer for trade some of the senior players than let players like Blakiston and May go (sorry I have no idea of the contract terms).
On current form I would be making sure Duz is signed on for whatever he wants.
I can see there being a big player tern around at the end of the season. Just cannot predict who the club will convince to stay and who they will trade/let go.
Lots of injuries but I think it’s a symptom of the fragility of the playing group. Really the established players seem to be more mentally fragile than the juniors. It’s something the club needs to address.
20,000 is a remarkable crowd considering our circumstances and Thursday at Docklands. Here are GWS Melbourne game crowds the last two years:
40,474 v Carlton at marvel
37,295 v Essendon at marvel
18,040 v Richmond at the G
16,246 v Melbourne at the G
23,278 v Melbourne at the G
36,468 v Carlton at marvel
Got a bit of the ball, but geez, his kicking is awful. Very un-Brad like to make changes like this, and McGrath in as well, but maybe he knows he has little choice.
