Fully sik VL Commodore as my first ride
I agree. I think we’ll regret the loss of the technical expertise that goes with automobile design and manufacturing. I understand it was almost inevitable given the small size of the market here and the vast number of existing imported vehicles, but it’s still a pity.
I had one of those, but in the early seventies. It was the first car I owned. Mine was a lovely pink with grey fins. I didn’t have the white sidewall tyres, but I did have the external sun visor. Pretty much halved the fuel consumption when I took the visor off. I drove it from Melbourne to Perth and back and it went beautifully. I eventually replaced it with a '66 VW Beetle, which impressed me greatly by having a heater that actually worked.
How do you know that was the last one made?
Should have kept my VB SLE with the 308, what a car that was, had VH wagon with a 253, VK and a VN which despite being a pretty average car I loved. Now have a VF11 SS-V manual which I will never get rid of.
Despite knowing that it was coming it is a sad day.
Sorry, meant last Aussie model, not specific car
I think the last actual Australian Commodore built was a very sweet red V8
Erm.
I had an EH Special as my daily driver from 2001-2010. Original condition, Amberley blue with the white roof, like this:
Not in as good nick as the one above.
Some Collingwood supporter (I assume) stole it from my driveway. A special place in hell should be set aside for thieves.
Seeing how that car is undriveable, you just tow it behind you wherever you go???
Sounds like it was a very good nick.
Too soon, man. Too soon.
Yes, @RedandBlackPartisan, haha. She is my pride and joy. She’s my age but in much better nick than me.
I reckon Holden was as Australian as it got. GM was just the parent company and we built cars for here, for our market.
My only holden was the VS SS.
My wife got an Astra in 2006 as her 21st birthday, I still drive it today.
I wonder who will replace them in the V8 Supercars
Only ones I can think of are KIA and BMW and that’s only coming to me as that’s who the cops now use for their highway patrol… I can’t imagine either being well received…
It is, and always* has been, a subsidiary of an American company.
- nobody cares about horse carriages
Easy clean seats. You know what I mean? Easy clean…
