Grass

I have installed Santa anna and Conquest couch, Sapphire/surwalter and the zoyasa japonica… cant remeber the name… and Kikuyu.

The Eureka Kikuyu roll out is by far the best… well… for most people.

the Couchs are good… but yellow up very easily in cold conditions.

Buffalo (sirwalter etc…) does not wear well, gets chewed up easy.

The Eureka stays green most of the year… requires more mowing, but not alot of water… January/Febuary…
It looks good mowed with great colour… and it is infertile… it seed, so while it will creep… you wont get it popping up where you didnt expect it.

That said… Im keen to use Wallaby Grass in a job. get it Hydro sprayed… its a native grass. I think it is worth a go.

Kikuyu.

I thought it may have just had something to do with the cold, but yellow normally means the N def in plants, so wondered whether to hit it with the weed n feed.

We’re both on the coast - not sure what the difference is, although it is pretty fertile land down here.

Except for citrus plants…need to be potted.

A week after laying a small patch of Sir Walter, and watering it in, it really needs a mow.
I’m supposed to wait two weeks to mow it, but I feel like it will be a jungle if I wait that long.

Mow or not mow?

I haven’t mown mine for 6 or 7 weeks now.

After 9mm yesterday and a good shower today, I’m confidently expecting a need next week.

Don’t mow, but if you really have to mow, take very little off.

I screwed part of my Turf laid, by being too eager.

Don’t mow until the roots are well and truly embedded. And don’t mow buffalo low (50mm or so)

Only used a whipper snippet for first three months. More a trim than a shave.

Happy overall with how my lawn has turned out, but there’s a corner that gets very little light so it’s struggling.
Wondering if I should add clover?
Something else?

grass pffft.

concrete it and add pot plants.

Who mows their own lawn? Surely that’s one of the things the peasantry are for.

Never said I mow it?

Edit: Oh, my question from months ago.
That was just about the first mow.
We have a lot of trees/plants that need a lot of regular pruning, which I can’t be arsed doing.
So the gardeners just quickly do that patch as well as the other stuff.

It used to be bark.
It’s a very small section, and it softens the area to the eye very nicely.

What’s everyone installing?

I need 60m2 done.

Thinking of Sir Grange or Tif Tuf (think it’s Bermuda)

Also, need a new mower. The electric Flymo finally gave in after 10 years.

How did that go mate?

I picked one up that basically needs a bolt and a blade sharpen.

Worth the effort?
