Thought PayID was ok. We get paid that way often. Register your phone number with Bank and you get paid into your account just using the phone number.

I have to sell some random stuff to make way for renovation works. What’s the best platform, eBay, gumtree or Facebook marketplace?

Not looking to make $, just move ■■■■ on, but don’t want ■■■■■■■■■ so figure $50-$100 would keep them at bay.

  • 3000L tank
  • bar fridge
  • bar freezer
  • MDF pool table

Tip shops will take some stuff

I got rid of a tv cabinet for free, not a lot wrong with it just knocked around a bit by the kids, but wife bought a new one and couldn’t be bothered taking to the tip. listed it, on a saturday, they showed up in a delivery truck like an hour later. Probably should have put something on it, but happy to have it gone.

I use Marketplace myself. Whichever platform you go with you’ll get tyre-kickers and whack-jobs.
Give it your price (add 25% over what you really want, allows them to negotiate and feel better about themselves), state that there’ll be absolutely no holds and it’s cash only (PayID and bank transfers vastly increases the number of whackos), and organise pickup times that suit you (don’t pander to them, it only guarantees a wasting of your time spent waiting around for no-shows or hours-late folks).

Edit: oh, and specify it’s pick-up only… unless you’re happy being a courier service.

Yep this.

I use marketplace all the time to buy and sell. If you’re happy to weed out the nutters it’s simple and painless. Price it right.

I had a bunch of stuff to get rid of today. I knew my prices were low, but I had to get stuff done and moved quickly.

Sold and collected
3000L tank!!!
Bar fridge
Bar freezer

To go
Smoker
Commercial sized paper shredder

Flind a local Facebook group which is just free, so that was nicer than dealing with tyre kickers.

I’ve done that and had the “oh I’d love that 2nd hand furniture clearly listed as pickup only. Can you deliver it, it’s only a 40 minute drive. I’ll be home for 3 minutes after 11PM next Tuesday”

We’ve been getting the “I’ll use Pay ID and my brother will come to pick it up” response to a some furniture we’re trying to get rid of. Dodgy as fark.

list a delivery price

Item price $5
Delivery price $999

Although these clueless halfwits tend to not bother reading the item description, so you’d get asked about delivery regardless.

I had a couple of doozys turn up with car way to small to move the item. But as I had nothing else planned, and it was about /km I just dropped it over myself.

Trying to pay it forward if I can.

I went around to a bloke’s place to check out a bookcase. I’d sorted a mate and trailer for later in the afternoon if the bookcase was what I wanted. Bloke selling it took my money, threw it up on the roof rack of his car, followed me home and helped me carry it inside. I was grateful but more taken aback obviously. He told me it was because I turned up on time and didn’t insult him with a lowball. They’re out there.

Over the past year I have been reporting clear and obvious scammers on Facebook Marketplace.

Newish profiles, usually from third world locations selling a bunch of random expensive items all for a similar random price, eg motorbike, large tool chest, kids cubby house etc for something like $139 each. Locally…

They generally don’t even pretend to look legitimate.

Where do these reports go? What’s the result…every time?

“We didn’t remove the profile”
" To keep our review process as fair as possible, we use the same set of Community Standards to review all reports.

We’ve taken a look and found that the profile doesn’t go against our Community Standards.

We understand that this might be upsetting so we recommend exploring the options available to control what you see."

What a disgraceful lack of care and responsibility these social media corporations have for these customers/victims.

Facebooks a ■■■■ company. Your better off not on their platform and look elsewhere. They invented neverending doom scroll which is terrible for your mental health and productivity.

I use whatsapp which i think they own but thats it.

A good friend has been getting people turn up at their house asking for the shipping container that they’ve paid a deposit for. About 6 so far. Have now tried to get the police involved due to threats being made when they say it’s nothing to do with them. Police aren’t interested. Someones making a few bob.
