Gym I've been going to for 4 years found asbestos in their roof and have shut down to completely rebuild the roof. They let me cancel my membership for no fee which is good (and expected), but disappointing because they had squat racks, huge range of kettlebells, battle ropes, olympic rings, rowers, sauna, pool.. was pretty ■■■■■■■ good!
Having to sign up for a new gym now and looking at a 24/7 place. It sucks because they don't have everything I'd like (Really got into the ropes) but they do have squat racks, kettlebells, rowers and it's a lot cheaper. Plus, being 24/7 I can do workouts after 8pm for once which really helps if I work late or something.
24/7 gyms are handy if you have fairly non-specific goals, otherwise they’re not much use
In other news - Laura Phelps just squatted 304kg @ 67.5kg bodyweight. Which means she has squatted over 300kg now in 4 weight classes (67.5, 75, 82.5, 90). Pretty amazing given pretty sure some of those are bigger than the biggest ever make Australian squats lol
I've done meself a mischief in my neck/back/shoulder. Can't do a single push-up because it feels like my chest is going to collapse, cant look down, cant do any pushing overhead and cant really feel my index finger. Getting scans and all that ■■■■ and the doc says I can't do "anything" in case I damage a nerve further.
Question is: what can I do to work around this? I did leg press, leg curl, leg extension and some ab work.. but need something a bit more interesting lol
Is it also ok to work one arm? It's my right thats injured which is my dominant arm, so was thinking of doing some work with the left. Don't want to get ridiculously one sided though

1) I'd wait til the scans come back before doing any training
2) what's wrong with those exercises lol?
3) there is scientific evidence that supports a maintenance of strength in the injured side by training the uninjured side
Yeah I'm resting. X-ray results tomorrow, which I don't think will show anything as I seriously doubt there's a fracture.
Those exercises are ok just get boring if it's all you can do 3x a week lol
lol yeah I guess if you're doing exactly the same thing 3 x a week it would get boring.
My exercises tend to stay fairly similar week to week but I make slight variations so I'm not doing the exact same thing.
Too much variation though and your body doesn't get a chance to adapt properly.
eg on Saturday after squats I will always do a hamstring curl variation - it could be on a GHD (where it could be flat, inclined, with bands, plates etc), with a band for high reps (either seated or lying) or on a machine (double leg or single leg). This way you're always training the same movement (and therefore muscle groups) but providing enough different stimulus to elicit strength/hypertrophy gains
Finished first week at gym. Had 3 x PT sessions included but were useless as the guy just wanted me to sign up with him long term, which I can't afford, and tried just selling me YOR Health products.
So tried first session myself yesterday and felt completely lost. No real idea of what to do and how to do it. After losing 13kg (i'm now 72kg), mainly through diet, I'm unsure how to go about it. I still need to lose about 2-3 Kg (last excess fat on my gut) but want to start to build muscle all over and get stronger.
I can get to gym 3 days a week, maybe 4. Should i train different muscle groups each session? What groups? Lots of cardio or limited? Still maintain low fat/ low carb diet or increase carbs now? Any help would be appreciated.
