I cured all of my injury problems by giving up running.

Worked a treat.

About 20 years ago l joined the gym at the Landmark hotel in downtown Bkk. They world out a program for me. l don’t know if l overdid it, or because l tried to build it up or what, but l ended up with AT. It got to the point where if l sat on a bus for more than an hour my Achilles basically froze up. l struggled to get off the bus at my stop and once l did, all l could do was shuffle along using baby steps for about 30 m, until the joints loosened up enough to allow me to walk freely. l became increasingly aware of people looking at me, like l was some sort of cripple. So, l gave up the gym, although both Achilles are still a bit tender at times, they are much improved over then, mostly as a result of a weekly foot massage, or two.

Anyone know of treatment for achillies tendonitis?

I have lower tendonitis but not burrs in my ankles which is a good thing. Just shock loading through running.

I’ve had injections, also used the pads through electric impulse applying cortisone.

Neither have worked I don’t really want surgery but anyone who has had and been cured I would appreciate some advice??

Do you get tested?

......my pain is isolated to the back of the tendon about 2 inches above ball of my foot..

I assume you mean 2 inches above the heel bone?

2 inches from the ball of your foot would be the plantar fascia.

Mizunos cured my AT too. Firm heel cushion and medial stability in rear of the heel is their secret recipe, IMO. Either Inspire, Nirvana or Paradox would fit the bill. Inspire for medium levels of stability, Nirvana and Paradox for maximum stability.

Yes, 2 inches above the heel bone, right at the curve of the achillies and perhaps the skinniest part. I squeeze there and ouch!

I have the Nirvanas great shoes!!

Yes I’m seeing a specialist, we have tried a couple of treatments but no good so far…going back later this month…I’m gonna tell him no more experiments I need to get it fixed once and for all.

Lol I meant drug tested
Quickest way to fix it would be with Dank-style supps

It does "sound like" plantar fasciitis. Typically, very difficult to weight bear after a sleep, but only takes a few minutes to warm up and fel ok.

Robert Harvey had a solution for plantar fasciitis. Jump from a table and release the scar tissue…OUCH!

Non surgical, non invasive treatment for tendonitis: Rest. ? moonboot. Anti inflammatories.

I thought plantar fasciitis was more toward the bottom of the foot are and achillies tendonitis was at the back of the heel?

Plantar fascitis can present differently for different people but usually causes heal pain. I have this and had it diagnosed with an ultrasound on my foot. I tried a few things but it seems to be well under control now using an anti-inflammatory - Mobic when it is bad. The symptoms are worse with bare feet / poor shoes. It is mostly heal pain for me and never around my achilles.

I’ve had it too. Pain in the arch/sole of foot and heel especially first thing after sleep. Some stretching with walking freed it up on a daily basis. Better foot ware freed it up for the longer term. Occasional nsaid’s helped.

Beware sudden increases in load without adequate warmup and also use foot ware that suits. Throw the thongs and Dunlop volleys out.

Are we diagnosing him on Blitz now?

So did he have more surgery during the week?

Yes - the other groin operated on.

Here’s what I wrote initially when I started this thread

" If surgery was needed you would have to question whether this should have been diagnosed much earlier in the time since the end of last season.

Was the bubble a realistic treatment in the circumstances or did it have an air of the experiment about it to make use of the new facility?

Some information from the club about their reasons and thinking here would be interesting as there will be further medical decisions to make in the future with bubble versus other more conventional forms of treatment.

Good luck to Heath with his recovery. "

I’m not a medico but why wouldn’t you operate on both groins at the same time rather than delaying his recovery much later with a second operation?

I think the diagnosis and treatment here hasn’t been as efficient as it might have been - perhaps more expert advice could have been sought.

Let me balance this by saying that the club generally does well with injury management but hopefully they will learn from this particular case.

It may have been a difficult choice, Jackie, with one option meaning the loss of more time, while the other option worth punting on after discussing it with Heath…

A second operation - That suggests that Hocking will be out of action to May/June.

Yup.

A bit of a plodder that relies a lot on his fitness.

He doesn’t strike me as a Gary Ablett type that could not touch a football for 10 years then pull a rabbit out of the hat

Hocking is mid-late 20s yeah? I’m sure he’s completed around 6-7 pre-seasons at least.
He won’t need a huge pre-season after surgery to get back to game-ready fitness as he would already have a decent base level.

Don’t forget, season starts later as well.

Large base yes, but higher the level of athlete, the quicker de-training occurs
Think he’s missed at least 1 or 2 pre-seasons before? Not sure what effect that has but definitely worth noting, and investigating in regards to how those seasons went

8 weeks from first game = early June, so first player to go on long time injury list on that basis?

So, if he is LTI which rookie comes in? Either Stein or McKernan I guess.

Or… LONG

or Aylett
