HOT TAKES

Before you watch J&SB Strike Back you probably need to see the earlier Kevin Smith films first (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma) if you haven’t already, as there are more than a few references to these films. Would still be enjoyable anyway though.

I’m not even supposed to be here today.

All good, I’ve seen those. I think by the time I got to Chasing Amy I was ready to give it a break. But I’m keen to go again.

Dogma is the best of them all (imo)

Amy herself was enough for me to give cinema a break for a long time

This is the hot take thread, I’m going with Red State. Came out of nowhere and, while there’s a chance I’m remembering it too fondly, it seemed like a film by a dude who might go on to make seriously good fare. I’ll rewatch, probably very relevant to current affairs too.

In a row??

Is as good a three album run as anyone’s.
And possibly the Best three album run starting from a debut.

Yeah, nah!!!

Well…I’m thinking Hendrix.
That’s fair.
But I welcome your suggestions/objections.

Edit: I mean from debut takes out so many major players. Beatles, Stones, Floyd.

Top of my list - Elvis Costello.

Other contenders include Led Zep, Sabbath, REM and Pretenders.

Australia’s own Cold Chisel also in the running.

Oh Zep is a good shout.
Fair.

Whoops.
Forgot Ten, Vs, Vitalogy.

It’s all a matter of personal taste…I’m not a big fan of Massive Attack so that obviously colours my opinion.

Just seen Obitv’s post and would agree with Zep and Sabbath.

I’d also throw in Tears for Fears, Madonna, Marillion, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Sting and The Tea Party.

But that’s just my personal opinion.

I agree on Metallica.

For me from debut, Hendrix first three (which probably is obvious to some), with a toss of a coin to Led Zeppelin and Bkack Sabbath to second place.

But what about just plain old best three record run? Maybe still Hendrix for me. But I honestly think the Stones Let it Bleed - Sticky Fingers - Exile on Main St run of three in a row is unmatched.

There’s not a track on any of those three records I’m even half tempted to skip. I can’t think of another band that’s done that.

Oh, and the album before those was Beggars Banquet….banger.

And the one after, Goats Head Soup

Nah…never been a big fan of Rolling Stones albums…in fact I only have one of those Stone’s album on my playlist.

I’d take Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and Animals ahead of both Hendrix and The Stones…and then just for fun, they released The Wall!!!

I’d love to know which Stones. I want it to be Exile….

I love Floyd as much as you, I am sure, but every album you named for me has a skipable or fast-forwardable section. And I’d knock out Animals and put in Meddle.

Oh, and the Wall just may be the most over rated bloated pile of sonic horseshit ever committed to tape… but I’ll keep that opinion to myself.

At least I’m sure we can agree on the first three Zep/Sabs… utter bangers.
