Pacing was up and down: First half was basically a lot of characters waiting around but awaiting orders is part of warfare. The strange, maddening uncertainty of consistent inaction was boosted by the canny use of eerie, foggy environments and also sudden black goat appearances.
Second half really tore it up. Second guessing the Queen and treasonous actions delivered consequences. IMO best naval combat in a GOT series so far.
Solid start to the Season. 8/10
I KNOW this is a show about dragons, and suspension of disbelief is required. I do. I get it. But the physics of the Scorpion are Soooooo ■■■■■■■ stupid. lol. I’ll get over it, but right now it’s making me mad.
As for the series. I think it does well and I’m happy it doesn’t try to stick 100% to the book.
As long as caraxes silverwing and vermithor talk it out and fly back like good dragons no important future battles are impacted.
spoilers now
As for Tumbleton:
Ulf’s work was clearly coming and somehow he grew from being plain unlikable to somehow understandable.
I’m glad Hugh’s character got a chance to show a bit more than just lust for power. He could really blame anyone for Kat and that might be one of the greatest variables of S4.
I didn’t like Tessarion and Seasmoke taking Vermithor in the book. so lets see.
Sheepstealer was a neat change because the betrayal still works without nettle.
I hope poor wounded sheepy licks his wounds and can still fly off into the sunset.
next seasons CGI budget is going to be out of control.
I’m actually a bit surprised how little the storyline progressed this season. They will need to wrap up a lot of characters and events next season, which is the final season, assuming that they conclude with the end of the civil war and the winning ruler in charge.
Huh. I was actually impressed with how much they moved things on compared to the previous season. But given they’re 18 months apart, it’s easy to forget.
Honestly, it’s just a show. It’s alright. It’s interesting. I could just as happily not watch another episode. GOT was must watch from beginning to end.
