i dont even care anymore. 84 and 85 i was giddy, 93 i was pumped because of who it was and 2000 was pretty much fait acompli but still very satisfying. im now so old and bitter i dont think id ever get to the same heights of arousal.however;
if we do in one of hawthorn (83) collingwood (90) or bris (if they havnt folded by then, 2001) i will be pleased we have atoned for some personally very ordinary days. and of course carlton, in painfully close or controversial circumstances. and not just silvagnis manicured fingernail or mil hannahs worm search type controversial. something that will make mike ‘hissy’ fitzpatrick consider re enrolling at caimbridge in a post doctorate of not particularly happy majoring in amusing public tantrums.
After the heartbreak of 1999, I thought nothing would top 2000 (especially given the performances that year and only one loss) … However, if we were to win another Premiership, after the nightmare of the last couple of years, I think it would be even sweeter.
Like many other Bomber’s supporters, I have been spoilt. Remembering the heights of the eighties and Sheedy’s success as a coach. Then, out of the blue 1993 the Baby Bombers it was truly wonderful. The late nineties, when several of our good players had injuries and we under achieved and then the 2000 season which alleviated all the unmet expectations. They were a super team.
Then came the drought…I will be over the moon when it happens.
