Interesting discussion:
Pick 1 for O'Meara and pick 8? Hell yeah!Unlike some others I’m not completely sold on McLuggage and don’t think the difference between pick one and pick eight is all that much this draft.
Mccluggage will be elite and is the clear number 1 in most experts eyes. I think there is a big difference between 1 and 8.
It would be trading a future A grader for a guy who might never play at the highest level again.
McLuggage is not without his issues. His kicking and hardness the the ball aren’t elite, and those are pretty important qualities when determining a player’s ceiling.
Is an inside outside player so would not expect him to be super hard at the ball but agree. Kicking is absolutely elite. Pretty hard for someone to kick and set up as many goals as he does and for it not to be.
If his kicking is absolutely elite, explain why his kicking efficiency is only average at TAC level, and he barely hit a target from all the vision I’ve seen from the Champs?
I’d say he is elite with his ball handling; finding space in traffic, getting into great position to receive the ball and bringing others into play. His kicking looks ok. Anyway, that’s what I gather from the stats, vision and draft profiles I’ve read.
I think there’s a bit of projecting our hopes and aspirations on to this player considering we are a good chance of getting him. Plenty considered Melksham an elite kick around here until it was plainly obvious that he isn’t.
Kicking efficiency is a stat that’s hard to evaluate without being there.
McCluggage is an ambitious user of the ball. He selects aggressive targets and goes for long kicks with hurt factor rather than safe chipping around. These kicks are of necessity difficult. Someone who routinely attempts them and ends up with an ‘average’ disposal efficiency is doing well, cos most if the others making up that ‘average’ will not even try.
