Hypothetical only trade discussions and ruminations

Why?

We’ve got no picks inside 30. Hard for us to be targeting any big names.

If McClure keeps pushing it, it doesn’t mean the thought is gaining momentum, it means McClure is scared of looking more like a fool than usual.

How can a trade discussion “gain momentum”? It’s either happening or it isn’t.

Or Grundy at Full Forward?

Joe being gone from ESS, if you believe McLure and Zerrett.

So

ESS King, Martin, Brodie
SYD Daniher
Carlton Papley
GCS Pick 4, 8 Laverde

Clinton King is 41, dude. We need mid bulls. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hahaha. There’s a name I haven’t thought of in a long while.

…and it reminds me of a story that I’ll save for DJK…

would be nice to get pick 30 off dogs, so could then use 29,30,31 all together

Is Brodie Grundy a chance at all to leave the Scum?

No chance

Joe gets traded out
We get Sydney’s 1st round,2nd round and Luke Parker

We keep the first round pick and go to the draft, and trade the 2nd rounder to get Jenkins from Adelaide

Smack to play FF, Jenkins half forward

Luke Parker would be perfect for our midfield

I keep seeing Parker’s name brought up. am I the only one who thinks he is no chance to be traded?

Parker is no chance to be traded

It’s the hypothetical thread, everything in here is not based on reality, that’s the point.

Haven’t posted in yonks, my bad if I did it wrong :joy:

I reckon I’ve got less than 5 blitz posts to my name but meh, here we go.

My post isn’t to be taken seriously,
It’s just a dream.

Try to read my entire post because I explain (try to) the method to my madness…
Some will see it.

Sometimes you have to make teams an offer that is very hard to refuse,
so you pay overs… especially regarding Picks for established players & fringe players with “potential”.

Overs, unders is a matter of opinion, a clubs opinion matters, not the fans.
These ideas aren’t necessarily an indication of how I value a player but simply dangling an offer I think other clubs would entertain inorder for us to get a player/players we want.

Our club’s wants/wishes/dreams are to get some established ready made players (position requirements) for the long-term and not so much stopgap Fringe players (but gap fillers and depth is always needed. So I’ve mostly gone for established players in this idea.

Regarding offers to entice established players, I’d offer an extra year or two than what they are seeking (job security) instead of quick cash.
if cash is an issue I’ll try to explain a solution later in the post.
But cap space is tricky without knowing every players payslip I’m probably way off a solution.
I’m not an accountant and you will realise this soon.

I’ll try explain the reasons as I go so I can avoid replying because I’m lazy and I’d much rather read the other ideas’ blitzers have than Re-explain mine.

It’s not ideal but if we had to bite the bullet and let go of Joe & Raz then this year is the year to do it,
we are in a position to come out on top…

CLUB PICKS…( few to pan out yet )

Gold Coast Suns: Pick 1, 17, 52, 73, 86

Melbourne: Pick 2, 20, 38, 56, 74

Adelaide Crows: Pick 3, 21, 26

Brisbane Lions: Pick 15, 19, 35, 42, 53, 89

Western Bulldogs: Pick 12, 30, 41, 46, 48, 84

GWS Giants: Pick 11, 13, 49, 75, 85

North Melbourne: Pick 7, 25, 43, 71, 79

West Coast Eagles: Pick 14, 22, 32, 59

Port Adelaide: Pick 9, 27, 61, 62, 63, 66, 81

Geelong Cats: Pick 18, 36, 54, 90

Collingwood: Pick 33, 51, 64, 69 or something

               ________________

Pay overs from our end, dangle some carrots.

Out… daniher to Sydney
In… Sydney picks 4 + 23

Sydney might want a later pick swap…but they love a big name forward.

(They are not handing over pick 4 + 8 if they get pick 8 for Papley, coz they get won’t get it for him anyway imo).

Out…picks 4 + 23 + 47 to crows,
In… Laird + crouch

(honestly not sure of their situations or cost pick wise or salary, but their names have been mentioned this upcoming trade period)

Apparently Laird is unhappy + crouch is gettable because he wants more than 3 years.

Cash wise daniher’s salary might cover 75% ($850,000 ? Just for numbers sake) I dunno… salary cap relief idea later in the post,
Both players could probably command more…$500,000 - $550,000 each?

Out… Fantasia + 29 to Port
In…9
May have to sweeten the deal a touch more.
They might want a later pick or pick swap.
But they like him so eh.

We will have…
9
29
31
60
65
83

Then …

Out…
Laverde + pick 9 + 29 to GCS
(maybe something extra)
they want ready made players and Laverde or Langford will want more opportunities next year and beyond.
To some they maybe spuds but to others (GCS) they may be handy.

In… Martin + 17
GCS move up the draft but also might want another sweetener which is more likely.

Fantasia’s + lavs or Langford’s salary would help pay him.

Out… pick 31 for a goal kicking fwd.
Preferably tall but would settle for a medium sized…
No big names atm so a couple fringe players here…
May not be worth pick 31 but eh…pick 47 maybe… Again, probably paying overs.

Wylee buzza
23 yo
199cm
104kgs
Vfl stats 32 goals from 17 games

Ben keays
22 yo
185cm
89kg
Neafl stats …39 goals from 15 games

Laverde’s salary would cover it ($300,000?.. again just for numbers sake, I dunno.

Regarding our ruck needs,
Couple options.

Ryder…will be cheap cash & pick wise
Jacobs…RFA
Nicolls from GCS
(probably rookie list)

None of them will cost more than pick 47 & regarding ca$h…$300,000,
A couple of Delisted + retired player’s salary would cover a ruck plus back up ruck cost…yeah?nah?

If I had the choice id go for Jacobs because he’s durable so offer the more years options instead of quick cash.
Nicolls as a rookie ( a million hitouts in the 2s this year )

               _________________

In short if someone said you will lose Joey and Raz but gain

Crouch
Laird
Martin

  • A goal kicker
  • 1 or 2 AFL ready ruckman
    PICKS
    17
    60
    65
    83

Would you take it?
I would.

Or it could look like this…
Crouch
Laird
Martin
Jacobs
*No fwd (not ideal)

Picks
17
31 ( if not used on a fwd )
47 ( if not used on a fwd )
60
65
83

It’s hard to not think about it considering we’ve made the 8 with minimal game impact from Joe and Raz anyway…and we need a couple things.

                  _____________

State of play…

Snelling & Martin fill the Raz void (plus more imo) & gives walla & stringer midfield time.

Laird is a duel AA defender… also frees up Saad or McKenna to move to a wing to get that ball inside 50 quickly, (“potentially” more inside 50s, more goal opportunities, hopefully more goals)

Crouch averages over 5 clearance a game… We need that.
Win it out the middle first or around the ground, “potentially” more inside 50s, more shots on goal, hopefully more goals.

between all of the inclusions (IMO) it will make up for the loss of Joey & Raz because of the defense Laird provides, the inside grunt of crouch, the ball movement of Martin and a fwd target to deliver it to.
(No…Buzza or keays won’t fill the daniher void)
And a durable ruck (or AFL standard depth) until Draps is ready.

But wait there’s more…

Yes… The cap.
It may…(imo) will be an issue.

But because we could potentially have pick 17, plus our 2020 1st rounders.
We could pay overs (picks for players) if their soon to be former club agree to take on some salary.

Eg. Picks 4 + 17 + 23 for Laird + Crouch plus salary relief.
Overs yes, but it benefits both teams.
Instead of picks 4 + 23 + 47.

Also with a few senior players that are on good coin closer to the end of their careers’ we can offer new players’ longer contracts with bigger coin attached to the later years (after our senior citizens retire)

And/or

Amend a couple of the older players’ contracts’, Hurley,Hooker…
Not to pay them less overall but to add a year (or 2) on the end of current deals to stretch out our TPP.
Even if they retire before the contracts expire we owe them a little cash for the first year or two of retirement.
It’s all included in our cap but it provides some immediate relief.

*Paying overs in picks so previous clubs pick up the tab.
*Cash that retired players’ leave on the table.
*Amended contracts’.

There’s ways of finding some extra dosh but we are limited because of TPP & potential player growth and other variables etc etc.

Told you i’d make a crap account.

In short, we are offering clubs more than other clubs are in a position to but we might just pull off a few good gets… AGAIN.

Daniher to syd for picks 4 + 23

Raz + pick 29 to Port for pick 9

Lav + picks 9 + 29 to GCS for
Martin + 17

Picks 4 + 23 + (17 or 2020 1st rounder)
to crows for
Laird & Crouch + cap relief

Pick 31 or 47 to Geelong for buzza or Brisbane or keays (or keep the pick without filling the Fwd hole)

End up with

Laird
Crouch
Martin
Jacobs - RFA
Buzza or keays
Nicolls - might be a DFA- so rookie him.

Picks
17 (if crows take 2020 option)
31 (if no buzza or keays)
47 (if no buzza or keays)
60
65
83

Or none of the above,
+
Picks 29, 31, 47, 60, 65, 83
That we will probably swap for fringe players or “spuds” as people say, just to fill in the gaps.
CEY, SPP etc
+
A banged up Joe & Raz (who might have lingering Injury clouds & leave in the future anyway)
+
Holes to fill

Then hit the draft for a couple players

Fletcher
Tippa 2.0
Rioli
Dunno draft value but i like the names.

As much as I love Joey and Raz im an EFC supporter, unfortunately talented players come and go sometimes.

                 _____________

I probably won’t reply to responses coz it’s an effort and a half just reading posts. That’s why I tried to “detail” my ideas.

Don’t think we are bold enough to offload both Joe and Raz this year.

TBH the only things that might happen out of my whole post is daniher to Sydney for picks 4 & 23
Or
Raz + pick to power.
For 9

But if one goes I reckon the only pick ups will be Martin and or Crouch (coz I think he’s gettable) imo.

Pick it apart, tell me I’m dreaming, tell me I’ve over valued our players and other clubs’ players’,tell me they aren’t worth the picks or are out of our reach, tell me I’d make a crap accountant, deep down I probably know it :joy:

Imo the draft is a lucky lip, anything can happen, you might score a my Little pony that breaks it’s leg the first week of training instead of the GI Joe with the Kung Fu grip we were hoping for.

As the saying goes,
Options are like plop droppers…
Everyone has one.

Just thought it would be more appropriate to share my opinion, instead of a poohole pic.

I didn’t read your post because it was an effort and a half. It’s a shame because it looks like it may have been interesting.

Great effort, must have taken some time.

Think you’d have to pay way more for Laird and Crouch. They are A-graders with plenty of years left in them.

GC IN: 31 + Laverde Out: 52+ Martin
EFC In Martin + 52 out 31+ Laverde

Suns get HFF prospect, can give him game time, Lav gets more $$$$ and opportunity
EFC gets more balanced HFF to go with our forwards

And a late third round pick that Dodoro might be able to use

I would like to add the constructive criticism that your post is ruined by this line.
