Look the bright side, after the Daniher bombshell we’re one step closer to getting Grundy
Grundy is open to a vic club if they offer him 7 years too
Daniher Trade
Swans : In Daniher
EFC: In Parker + Pick 5
B: Saad Ambrose Gleeson
HB: Redman Hurley Francis
C: McKenna Parker Zaharakis
Hf: Stewart MCKERNAN Smith
F: Fantasia Hooker McDonald_tipungwuti
R: Bellchambers Shiel Merrett
Int: Parish, McGrath Laverde, Langford,
Emg: Guelfi, Snelling, Ridley
If we get parker dont need SPP.
I wonder whether pick 5 is high enough to attract GWS to the table (to get ahead of the Green bid)…Melbourne have 3 but have enough big bodied mids…Adelaide have 4 and have too many big bodied mids…if Essendon get 5, well we are crying out for a Green-type.
So, I’m dreaming of:
ESS out: Daniher
ESS in: Two of Caldwell(pick 11)/Hately(pick 14)/Bonar(pick 11)
SYD out: 5 + SYD something (I don’t care)
SYD in: Daniher
GWS out: Two of Caldwell(pick 11)/Hately(pick 14)/Bonar(pick 11)
GWS in: 5 + SYD something (I don’t care)
Effectively, we will have traded Daniher for two first rounders (though if one is Bonar, I might expect another little pick swap in our favour).
This leaves us with two picks in the draft at 31 and 37 to get some talls…and that is where the talls are in this draft.
And bank a little salary cap to try to attract a FA in 12 months time.
EFC IN: 5 + Gunston
Hawks In: Buddy, Zac Jones Out: Gunston
Swans In: Daniher, Out 5, Buddy, Zac Jones
Then 5 & 37 to GWS for 11 & Hopper
My dream (and yes, people can hate me for it) would be:
Port: Raz & #30
EFC: Howard & #10
Sydney: JD
EFC: Papley & #5
GCS: #5, #10, Hurely, Zaha
EFC: King, Martin, #20, 2020 second (likely #20 as well)
GWS: #20, #36
EFC: Z. Williams
Summary for EFC
Out: JD, Raz, Hurley, Zaha, #30, #36
In: King, Papley, Howard, Martin, Williams, 2020 #20 (most likely)
Our 2019 draft hand would be pretty much wiped, but we’d significantly add to the 2020 best 22 versus the available, injury free 2019 best 22, and strengthen our 2020 draft hand. Brings in good users (who are also fast) and replacements for JD and Raz.
I think we could do that from a salary cap perspective. In real life if offered that I’d probably throw in our 2020 first round pick as well to get the whole thing over the line, as I’ve assumed a number of trades there go our way.
Of course, only hypothetical as so many elements are snowflakes chances in hell of occurring, or even being considered.
Last line is only reasonable part
fark this is my new favourite thread, absolute laugh in here.
OUT: Daniher to Syd
IN: 5 & 9 (Syd gained via Papley & 43)
OUT: 5,9 & 33 to GWS

IN: 15
OUT: Raz & 15 to Port
IN: Wines & 29
OUT: 29 to Bris
IN: Cutler
OUT: 57 to Blues
IN: Phillips
——
Net loss: JD, Raz, Lav, 31, 33, 57 & future 2nd
Net win: Cameron, Wines, Cutler, Phillips
ess 5, 9, Jack Martin
swans Daniher 33
suns Reid
I would love to get a hold of a late first rounder…I think it opens up so many options…here is just one chain of dreams:
OUT: 31+33
IN: 18
(We’d have to give STK a wink and a nod, promising not to cut their lunch on Dougal Howard)
OUT: 18
IN: Martin + Future GC 3rd rounder
(GC already have a stack of gifted 2020 picks, so I think they would be willing to give a ‘late’ pick back…it all comes in handy!)
OUT: Future ESS 2nd rounder
IN: Bruce
(By this point, we’ve got a great working relationship with STK…STK should, for example, be able to send this future second round pick to SYD for Jones because SYD particularly appreciates future points for their academy players)
OUT: Daniher
IN: First rounders to take to the draft
(Because CARL miss out on Martin, they pay heavily for Papley…and we clean up on the turn from SYD)
I’m just doing this for my own amusement now:
OUT: 31+33
IN: 18
(This is a trade with STK)
OUT: Daniher
IN: 5 + 25
(This is the minimum SYD trade, it seems)
OUT: 25
IN: Bruce
(Just replaced Daniher somewhat)
OUT: 5 + 18
IN: 6 + Caldwell
(Gets GWS ahead of another party that might bid on Green, and gives them the points with 18 to match the Green bid…we may be able to leverage another little kicker from GWS)
Summary:
ESS OUT: Daniher + 31 + 33
ESS IN: Bruce + Caldwell + 6
North Papley, 5
Ess 25 Brown
Swans Daniher, 47
Brisbane 44, 48
Carlton Papley, Martin
Sydney Joe Daniher Lewis Taylor (Swans lose Papley, 5, 25, 44)
Essendon 5, 14, 25, Cutler
Geelong 9, 43
Gold Coast 17
Looking back, its interesting to think that based on the trades done, if we could have convinced Jenkins and Martin to choose us and that GCS take (their own) 2020 3rd round pick instead of Carlton’s 2020 second round pick, if JD had left the overall trades(s) could have been:
Summary
EFC out: #36, Daniher
EFC in: #15, Sydney 2020 first, Martin, Jenkins
Just interesting to see what might have been. I definitely prefer to have kept Daniher (well, assuming he is uninjured next year), but the scenario I’ve portrayed wouldn’t have exactly been a nightmare one. A good pick this year, going into 2020 with two firsts of trade currency, Jenkins to fill the void short term and a player with good disposal (that IMO we’re screaming out for) in Martin.
If Jenkins really was open to anyone and Martin was so interested in us last year, not beyond the realms of possibility either.
Based on:
Trade 1
EFC to Sydney: Daniher
Sydney to EFC: #9 and 2020 first
Dodoro seems to have said this is what we knocked back, but no idea if that is (a) correct or (b) there were other parts (e.g. a second rounder going back).
Trade 2
EFC to Adelaide: #36 (in real life they accepted #35)
Adelaide to EFC: Jenkins, Gold Coast 2020 3rd selection
Trade 3
EFC to GCS: #9, Gold Coast 2020 3rd selection
GCS to EFC: #15, Jack Martin
(media saying GCS offered Martin and #15 to Carlton for #9 and Carlton’s 2020 second).
Carlton well and truely shat the bed.
15 would definitely be enough to pry Papley away from the Swans. They wouldn’t have been happy about it, but they would have done it at the death with maybe a future third on top. I don’t believe the talk that Papley would only go if the got Daniher. It was Carlton’s stage fright held everything up.
Carlton should have got both Papley and Martin. How SOS has a job I dunno.
Nah Papley was not getting traded, unless Daniher was.
Sos had the paperwork ready for 9 and Papley ready to go if Swans could get a deal with us.
SOS rated papley as their #1 target but swans held him to his contract.
Are you taking away my joy of laughter at F@rkCarlton right now?
Shame on you.
Step 1: Deal with WC to shift our pick surplus into the 2020 draft
ESS out: 61+64+65 (326 points)
ESS in: GEEL’s future third (~250 points?)
WC’s remaining 2019 picks are miserable (46, 91, 108) so they will probably still appreciate this bundle of late 2019 picks. The above trade would replace the future third we gave up for Cutler.
Step 2: Points to Fremantle for Liam Henry
ESS out: 31+33 (1169 points)
ESS in: 22+58 (1015 points)
I wish we could get higher up the draft order than this, but looking at what the various teams have, I feel that 22 might be the best we can do…and frankly I’m not sure getting up to 22 is worthwhile downgrading our second pick to 58…so only do this if there is someone we REALLY want in the early 20s of the draft.
so wait until draft night for freo trade
