Thats what he meant but like you said he just didnt fully understand what a silver lining means.
But I think we can all agree we would prefer our best 22 players not to be the ones copping injuries if we could choose. No injuries are ever good though obviously but they are a part of all sport.
He will be back and come good.
The tigers are ■■■■. If we lose to them clowns we deserve to be near the bottom. We lose to them clowns all that we did so far this season has turned to ■■■■.
I agree with most of this, but the 3 tall defenders was working well on Sydney, and they couldn’t find a way around it until Hayes went down, so perhaps it has merit against other opposition? I’m not certain on this being the best combination, and I would generally prefer another smaller player that’s good by foot, like Johnson, but our strategy with the 3 talls showed enough to be worth trying again.
Also, I think having one of our ball magnets in Tsatas or Parish, in the inside mid, means we get more first use of the ball from stoppages. The balance is better with one of them in the 22.
Johnson is playing - they wont keep him out of vfl side and then have a vfl bye like we have this week. He plays `I’m sure of it I reckon they decided that 2 weeks ago
Why would you risk a player that has not played all year, missed much of the pre season, and has had several soft tissue injuries over past few years in the seniors, first game back?
The Sub could be on 5 minutes into the first quarter.
Parish needs a minimum 3 weeks in the VFL to reduce any risk of a soft tissue injury.
So he can retain his status of never playing a VFL game. *May not be true.
His calf should be fine now.
There is probably not that much a greater risk doing it at AFL level over VFL level.
He’s likely been ready for a game for a couple weeks by the time we play the Tigers.
Can match him up against Shiel and Tsatas at training, if he’s in better nick he can come in. will have a solid training block this weekend.
I think in reality we are near the bottom.
We are a 12th-16th team. Yes, there’s lots of positives and beacons of hope but right now we aren’t a September team.
If the Tigers bring the heat and contest it will be close. Just like it was for us against the Roos and Eagles. Don’t be distracted by beating a scarred and injury plagued Swans from where we’re currently at.
Surely nobody looks at our midfield right now and thinks we are really missing Darcy Parish.
His past achievements mean that yeah of course he’ll eventually be picked but for a guy who is notoriously slow to adjust to the pace of the game/find his confidence when coming back from injury, let’s take advantage of the fact that the current midfield group is doing well and can hold things down to allow Parish 2 or 3 matches in the VFL to be truly ready to return at AFL level. There’s no rush.
Only using your Sub in the first 5 minutes of a game!
History shows players returning from long term injuries, particularly those getting older, are far more likely to suffer a soft tissue injury. Even if his calf is fine, he will be prone to a hamstring or the like.
If he’s off after 5 minutes in the VFL it has little consequence, in the AFL it can mean the game.
I’m willing to risk it. If its Richmond, and we cant win a man down, then we don’t deserve to and would help us with better mid season draft pick. Alternative to getting injured is he plays a quarter and gets a few possies in a win then is cherry ripe for the trip to Brisbane where him playing might work to our advantage.
say he misses this week due to VFL Scheduling
then plays 3 weeks of VFL He misses Tigers, Brisbane, Blues, and is possibly back for the cats match.
With how close the competition is, he could help us win the Lions/ Fark Carlton games.
He’s probably more likely to get injured pull up sore before the VFL game he’s announced to play in given recent history.
last season he was back up to normal Darcy after 1 match post injury.
Would we have beaten WCE and/or Norf with a player down after 5 minutes?
Richmond are not hopeless and if we take that attitude into the game, we will likely lose.
