A mistake then, a mistake now and a mistake moving forward. No doubt they all have been granted Life Membership for their ignorance and incompetence!
Some of us thought it was a major strategic mistake in foresight.
For our 5 home games at MCG, do we have a say in which games they are?
AFL runs fixture, but can they force us to play our ‘home’ games at G against MCG tenants that play there more than we do?
If not, I know what I’d do if I was running EFC - we’ll play all our home MCG games against fellow Docklands tenants thanks. And ask fellow Docklands tenants to do the same. At least we’ll get more games at G (even though they are away games).
But more importantly, it screws with the MCG tenants, who as it stands not only get their home games at G, they play there as an away team against us as well. Also screws with MCG itself, which does very well out of us, even though we are not a tenant.
Short term pain, but might force AFL/MCG to negotiating table.
And if we have no say on who we play at G, I would be running a very public campaign on our home ground disadvantage.
Most likely they do to maximise attendance(s).
And if we have no say on who we play at G, I would be running a very public campaign on our home ground disadvantage.
This really only is an issue because we are ■■■■. I’d prefer we played all melb based teams at the G.
Geelong I’m fine with playing away at pork barrell park every second year or so.
If Geelong are dragging us off to pork barrel Park, I have no idea why we’d choose to play one of our 5 home MCG games against them.
If they won’t play their home games against us at G, why should we do them a favour?
We might not get a say in it though, which as I allude to above, is bullshit.
I would rather sit in the comfort of marvel and watch us lose, than sit in the wet and cold at the MCG and watch us lose
I feel like you’re leaving out at least two options.
Stay at home and drink a bottle of vodka?
That’s me these days
That’s sounds very Essington
Yeah interstate and them at marvel. Till I’m convinced we can beat the cats lol.
My seats at marvel (level 1) are colder than anywhere I’ve ever stood at the G.
Especially If you’re unlucky to be sitting infront of an exit where the wind comes through.
I stand up at the G. It’s great.
“Lyon also explained his pre-game tweet, in which he criticised Marvel Stadium staff for leaving the roof open pre-game and letting the surface become wet.
“We all need to acknowledge the difference at Marvel. You get to the MCG and there’s beautiful, soft give in the ground,” he said.
“It’s concrete out there (at Marvel). It’s hard as a rock. The grass is like my scalp, really thin, and it becomes very, very tricky conditions.”
Well that’s good to know, after 20 years of crap. Our ‘fortress’ is an injury machine
As if a) EFC would do anything at all like that and b if they did, as if that would do any good.
We knew that 20 years ago!
Yep, I mentioned on here recently that several of the Crows players were doing there weekly media spots over here after they played the Dogs at Marvel and they all commented on how the Marvel surface took longer to recover from and Burgess had designed a fitness program that dealt specifically with preparing and recovery from Marvel games including giving some of the older players a bit lighter activities.
For sure but this is 2025 and the coach of a tenant team is saying it to the press. Marvel was such a terrible move for us it makes me sick
Biggest mistake in Club history leaving the MCG for that dungeon. Shortly followed by the decision to go to Tulla.
Essendon 1993-2000 were the glory days of peak blockbuster Essendon. Huge crowds, great excitement and the MCG was rocking. Crowds of 65,000+ against the Roos, Dogs and Swans. And that was before freebie member entry and everything else they do now that’s driven crowds higher.
Have we done deal to play an extra home
game at the MCG from next year?
They have announced a 5th home game in 2025. I have no faith in Vozzo and his commercial team to do a great deal so my guess is they will end up alternating with Carlton the next few years for a 5/4/5 MCG deal with Carlton who have a 5/6/5 deal. I reckon we won’t get a 5th homer at the G annually. Let’s see if Barham/Vozzo surprise me. I’m not confident! We stuffed it going to the dungeon and now we can’t get out!
