Well you know what? We’ve dropped a bit of dead wood and I for one like mongrels who can kick a goal. Might not.be a world beater bit i think some ‘wasted spots’ have opened up.
Good luck to him, an opportunity outside of a x2 premiership side and another stacked with early draft talent might be the (second or third!) making of him.
agree - we have to turn over the list and keep trying new players. A premiership player is a good get. Hard nut is a bonus - we need to get a harder edge to our playing style.
It’s also great having a team first player who selflessly does whatever it takes for the teams betterment. It sets the right example.
If we want to go from a rebounding team to a forward half team we need to have the players that can make that happen. Townsend appears to me to be a player lacking in skill but overflowing with courage and desire. He wont let Zerrett get knocked off the ball or leave Shiel unprotected and therefore rushed.
We can play the game we need to play with blokes like him in the side and at the same time allow our more skilled and talented players an opportunity to express themselves better.
I kind of like the ‘defensive forward’ aspect to him, and not just that he tackles.
The article above mentioned playing shut down roles on Johnson and Carlisle. We’ve had half backs getting easy intercepts off us for a few years now, and we haven’t really had an option to combat that, certainly not one that can also go well in the air.
He might be alright, he might be meh. We’ll see I guess.
Im all for getting games into players. But if he shows he can mix it and give more with players already in our best 22 or draftees then so be it. Its a mature age recruit at 26 with experience already. If hes gonna add something then id rather he has a crack over an potentional draftee who may not be ready yet.
With rutten working along side woosha more this year and a few of the coaching changes i think we will see more players get a crack who deserve it than we saw this year at times.
No I don’t think they would be able to but that is my point. They have been in the system long enough now to be known quantities. They can’t expect to have a place on the list and especially not in the 22 because they may be good one day.
If their noses are out of place because a guy that’s played less than 50 games in 8 years, then they probably don’t have the required/desired mindset that you want from a professional sports person.
